Heater illumination - Questions

Post by Rupsey »

Dear All,

My Cavalier's illumination left a lot to be desired, only having the speedometer lights and odd switches illuminating. So have replaced several bulbs.
So replaced the clock bulb - no problem
replaced the lighter bulb - sort of no problems
replaced one bulb behind the heater controls - quite difficult to do.

Questions:
1) As it is so long since I had these working, I cannot remember if the lighter and the heater controls are lit when the ignition is on (as it does now) or when the light switch is turned on. At the moment when I turn on the ignition, the lighter illuminates and so does the heater controls. Is this correct?

2) Was there only one bulb on the heater controls? I could only find one but it seems quite diff for the red/blue illumination. is there another one I have missed or something?

Cheers,
Rupsey

There is only one bulb for the heater panel, hence why illumination is so poor.
See here: http://www.kirwindesign.co.uk/howto.html#heater
I have a 'how to' on this in the pipeline.

Hello, i am new to this forum and since i decided to finally change the bulb on the heater panel - i finally did it. The problem is after i put everything back to place there is this huge gap. What am i doing wrong? I spend hours trying to fit it seemlesly. Thank you in advance.
P.s. My car is actually an opel vectra, but i guess i still fit.

Looks like one of the location lugs has not gone into it's location hole properly.

See if you can tease it back into place with a bit of wiggling and gentle persuasion.

The trick is to bend the middle towards you so that the ends get closer together and then feed the ends into place first. Then you push the middle back into position. You will be surprised at how much you can bend it.

the heater went cold last Thursday........
they check the level when it's serviced don't they?"
