Water in the boot...

As per usual my day never went to plan, I have Friday off and going to the GF's mums so I'll tackle it at her house as it's quite big

Just need to remember and take stuff with me... probably bring everything and forget my buckets -.-

Hopefully I'll remove the trim and carpets and give it a good clean, is there any point in spraying primer (on the boot floor) before putting the trim/carpet back in?

You wouldnt do any harm spraying some smoothrite or simular on the boot floor but make sure its all dry first (give it a blast with a heat gun or hairdryer but obviously be careful of flamable items! lol)

Well, I may have got some progress with this..

Checked this morning after doing some silicone work yesterday, there was a tiny puddle in both corners, exactly where the carpets kept getting damp. So, I try to trace where the water is coming from. In the end, I poured water from a jug over the 2 rubber grommets at the top, that contain the rear washer hose and the wiring loom.
And to my un-surprise, drip drip drip inside..... So I dry it up, clean the grommets and siliconed around them..... while later, more water, no drip inside. So it must have gotten inside them somehow, probably due to age/dirt build up inside and treacled down the D pillar to the corners....

Hopefully that's one problem sorted for now.. Will check again tomorrow and test it further.

If anyone needs pics of where I mean, just ask I'll get some up.

Remove the lights, clean the surfaces thoroughly, then put a small bead of silicone around the seal on the light clusters. This should ensure water does not get in through the lights. The gap in your pictures is normal, that doesn't let water in. The seal is further in.

If the gap is normal the lights should be fine then as the O/S has just been replaced...

It rained overnight and this morning, I checked again and no sign of damp or water drops in the boot. Hopefully that's out of the way now. I managed to dry out the carpets and refitted them. I'll keep an eye on it but it seems to be sorted.

When my boot carpet got damp i just hung it up on the garage wall and it dried in about a day. My cause of wet boot was annoying basically because someone tried nicking my rear light so the bottom was hanging out and water flooded in!

It maybe worth checking under the rubber shocktop cover, if you've had damp in the boot, condensation builds up under the cover and then rusts the top of the shocker, I had so much water collected under it that it filled the big cup like washer, bit hard to get to with the side boot trim in place (drivers side). I've left it off now .

Today, I was at the GF's mums and decided to have a car boot clear/clean out...

This is all I had to work with (she has a garage that's empty but loads of cob webs and spiders in there, so that was a big no.





Anyway I removed the junk from my boot and was left with this:

(just looked at the pictures and got a shock...)













Anyway, I used an old pack of baby wipes I found in the boot to pick most of the muck out of the spare wheel well then I got the APC out, used it 50:50 with my ex-wheel brush, not holding back as the boot was already wet I gave it a good soaking and let it dwell then a good scrub and left for a wee while longer before being removed by a sponge and clean water. (also tried to clean the plastics that could be removed without tools but the long bit at the back came up pretty crap)















I forgot to take a torch the light inside the boot was pretty poor except the flash from the camera . I take it the plastics that are above the carpet need to come off before the carpets come out?

Next steps: remove carpets, fix the leaks and scratch the boot floor (maybe sides) and hammerite them as it looks horrible, even cleaned up.
