Replacing Dash - advice / points to note? (cant find how2)

Post by Stoater85 »

guys,

I now have black dash and console parts taken from a GSI. all the bits and bobs are there - even the strange tape holder thing lol.

I will probably give this a bash at the weekend.

Any advice, tips, learnings from anyone?????

appreciated :cool

Did mine last weekend with a whole lot of help from psl.

Its pretty straight forward once you have all the dash furniture (heater controls, speedo, glove box etc) out of the way and the five bolts un done (one each side at the top and bottom plus one in the middle on the top of the dash near the screen under a plastic cover).

There are lots of cable clips and possibly cable ties to un do (keep as many as you can as you may need them for the new dash).

Just try and remember what wires go under what etc and you should be fine.

Its a lot easier with 2 people.

Good luck!

Oh take the piss, but if youve got one of those wheels that a sod to get off, you will be glad youve not got the dash hanging off when you realise you cant get the wheel off.

I removed the Black dash from my old SRi that I scrapped, agree with gaz, take the wheel off first. don't stretch the cables for the heater control or it will ruin your day.
If in Doubt.......Flat out!

thread cleaned up after concern from another member.

as so many of you are removing dashboards at the moment it would be good to collate photos/details into a how2. so if you dont mind the job taking twice as long as you stop for photos every two minutes then please do report back and we'll put something together.

Being honest once the five bolts are out, all thats left to do is detatch the loom from the many clips on the back of the dash and putting the new one in is basically reverse of removal.

Theres a few pics in my WIP thread which may be of use: viewtopic.php?f=21&t=8316
