I have a problem with my 2.0 litre petrol engine
After driving for a while it gets up to temperature(between 90 & 100 degrees) then the engine light comes on & power drops
It happens after I've been driving for about 15 to 20 mins
There's no water loss and the head gasket and timing belt were replaced in early February so that's all sorted
I'm at a loss as there's no fault showing up when plugged into the diagnostics

Re: HELP..Engine light on
Do a paperclip test. Detailed here:

It may also be worth replacing the thermostat as that could be stuck closed.

Re: HELP..Engine light on
I can only assume that the old 10 pin KWP diagnostics is too old and primitive for any standard diagnostic tool.
Only useful tool would be Tech1.
Tech 2 is too new, and OpCom / Vauxcom is only able to read certain ECU's. And then only with the latest software.
The paperclip test is quick and simple.
Just a matter of counting flash sequences.
If your engine is overheating -
Consider the following
...
1 - the radiator fan, it's thermo-switch or it's fuse may be faulty.
2 - as suggested the thermostat may have failed in the closed position.
3 - when the timing belt was changed - did they replace the water pump.?
I change mine on every 2nd belt change.
(New belt every 32,000 miles..
New belt, tensioner and water pump every 64,000 miles ).
Only useful tool would be Tech1.

Hi
It's not overheating..It happens when it's up to normal driving temperature and the fan cuts in as it should
Not sure if the pump was changed Tbh but water is circulating fine
It's only just got to 66k miles
I have another mechanic coming out on Monday who carries Tech 1 and is proper old school so fingers crossed

Re: HELP..Engine light on
Well the camshaft sensor has been replaced and still got light on but no other faults were showing
Also the exhaust note seems raspy as if it's blowing
I'm stumped
