exhaust box

Post by Cavalier342 »

Hi all!
Just after some quick advice guys.
I bought an SRi backbox and it arrived today, shiny and good. anyways, i cant get the old backbox off   Tried everything with a bit of elbow grease, is there a good way of removing it? i was thinking about sawing it off but that would leave the connection from the middle section overlapped, meaning i wont be able to slide the SRi box on it.
If anyone could help, i much appreciate it.
thanks.

twist it using the backbox, hit it with a rubber mallet on the join see if it shocks it free a bit

ye, thanks Gaz i'll keep it up. I heard somewhere that revving it about without the clamp on can help shake it free with a good shower of WD-40. So annoying lol. The SRi box is here right next to me but i cant fit it on. argh

if you have to you might get a stout screwdriver and hammer it into the join and do it that way

ye Gaz, i been doing that today. I had a flathead screwdriver and kept hammering into the joint, between the 2 layers. Unfortunately i could only get half way around the circumference, the upper parts are pretty unaccessible. I guess i'll just keep trying at it :) I am not willing to give up

Warm the exhaust slightly, thin wideish flat screwdriver, plenty of WD40, wank the back box about and tap the screwdriver up near the splits

The exhaust's under the car, it's not raining under there! :p

I know what you mean though, at least it's a job you can stop at any time and wait for another day. The last time I got my spanners out to change the springs on my old cav, it was lovely and sunny. Stripped the strut right out and lo and behold, black skies and a shitload of water fell out of them........... :wall Had to get it done so I got rather wetter than I had hoped.

lol ye. I just hope that revving it about has loosened it somehow. As soon as i get another chance, she's going back on the ramps and i'm getting set with the hammers/spanners/WD-40 :D Oh, one more thing, when i fit the new box on, apparently i'm supposed to stick some epoxy resin or something on there. Do i have to? because it'll only make it harder to remove in the future :? It should be fine just clamped up, right?

Waaay :D Finally fitted the SRi box on. (Well had major help from a guy across the road as he had a rotary tool set with a cutting blade 8-) Lesson learnt - easiest way to remove a backbox is to cut along the pipe's outer sleeve right to the end of the middle section pipe, then simply shower it with WD-40 and twist off :)
Thats incase anyone else had the same problem as me. :wave
Anyways it gives a slightly sporty sound now, but theres a tiny hole in the middle pipe which i gotta repair today. Other than that, it definitely improves things. so... lol.

Here she is :D

Its nice to see some shiny stainless steel in place of the old corroded grimey box with a fat hole in it.
