Fuel pressure regulator

Post by Cavalier342 »

The standard one on the V6 I believe is 3.0 bar, is it worth fitting a 3.8?

Reasonable price, but it looks a lot different to the one I've got on there, so would I have to get some sort of adaptor to fit the hoses?

Well, more of a weekender really, it's not going to be a daily driver. I'm not looking for more power, but it feels really sluggish at the low end, unless that's just down to high gear ratios.

Shouldnt be sluggish at all.
Don't fit any parts till the engine feels ok.
The engine has an extremely heavy flywheel that makes it ultra smooth but not eager to rev.
The engine should have some good pull

it's sluggish at accelerating in second and third, below 30mph, I didn't put my foot down all the way, but I was expecting a bit more... in first, it feels like there's a massive flatspot until it gets to over 3000 RPM. I didn't go much above 4000, as I only ran up and down the road. Unless I'm just used to the 8 valvers which are more poky at the lower end.

But bloody hell does it grunt.... sounds like the devil being unleased... f**k me it sounds nice.

The only thing I could think of was either fuel delivery problem or air mass flow sensor, as the previous owner said she only fitted a cheap one from ebay.

Cheers Gaz. I did look at a 3.8 bar that I mentioned but not sure if it would fit. The one with the part number that you gave looks different to mine as well. Mine's like a small cylinder with a small pipe in a different location I think.

thanks for the advice, should be getting it done in the next few weeks depending on the weather and if my mate can give me a hand we should have it cracked in no time
thanks again
That will be it. Those eBay air flow meters are rubbish. Look out for a second hand genuine one. I'm sure the part number ends in 016.

It needs to a genuine one really. I think they contain a special metal for the hot wire that is different to cheap ones

Andrei, a good service, plugs, check the leads, fluids, filters, breathers and a paper clip test should be your first port of call. No point fitting an uprated FPR if you're not going to do the basics (not suggesting you aren't, but worth doing). A car of that age will benefit from ultrasonically cleaned injectors too. I was out in my V6 this morning, it pulls like a train, no reason yours shouldn't do the same. As mentioned though, cheapo AFM won't be do any good, neither will that air filter of yours; sucking masses of hot air right into the engine will only restrict its performance.

Ye the air filter is crap, they do just that, but I have noticed that it is a bit more poky from cold. Obviously I don't rev it from cold, but just pulling away, it has got more poke before it gets red hot. So that could well be the filter. Or the mass air flow sensor. Ht leads looked ok to me and Dave. They're fairly new.

We have serviced it already pretty much, all I need to do is change the oil. It's got new plugs, fuel filter and we cleaned the breathers. Injectors, yes I'd agree could benefit from a clean, but that's for another day.

So far though I have not planted my foot to the floor in it. Only been going half way ish.

Coming from the 1800, you might want to have a spare pair of underpants and some baby wipes the first time you do.

Slightly off topic, I apologise, but related. I recall my first experience in a quick car, a 309gti, brand spanking new unregistered. I collected it from the lock up we stored the new cars in to pdi and pulled out onto the road a bit quicker than usual as I was aiming for a gap in the traffic. I had never driven anything quicker than an 1100 fiesta before that and the force of me shifting back on the seat pulled my foot off the gas which sent me forward again. I kangarood my way up the road until I got a handle on it, lol

if its runing right it will feel pretty dam pokey even half throttle in first and second, the gap between 2nd and 3rd not so clever but should feel lively

the standard gearbox and flywheel aim at smooth power delivery more than outright response

I'm gonna go with a new mass air flow sensor and see how it goes from there.
