Which air filter?

Can anyone recommend a decent airfilter for a 2.0 16v ecotech engine ?

For what purpose? Depends on your other engine updates, configuration, what you want to get out of it etc. A K&N panel filter would be a decent, cost efficient upgrade.

I tried a Powertec stainless steel induction cone, bloody massive one, in my early years with an sri eco. Acceleration was smooth & better, with no flat spots, a big improvement. But I was younger then.
- The downside being it's so LOUD ! Even at mild revs it's noisy and a guaranteed law magnet.
I've settled with a pipercross panel filter, almost as smooth but more subtle, mid to high revs sound sporty but if you want quiet you can have it, at slower revs - best of both worlds imo

Cone shaped filter will absorb a lot of engine heat if not properly shielded. Cold air is what you want to be pulling in. You could go for an enclosed case induction kit (e.b. Pipercross Viper) or look for a K&N 57i, but consider shielding any open filter from engine/bay heat. A direct fit K&N panel filter will still deliver an additional growl while improving airflow.

Cut a piece out of the airbox, side against the wing. Will sound good straight away even with standard filter
