I replaced my centre section with a straight through pipe (off eBay) and I can detect no difference in sound!
I like to believe it breaths better though!

I got mine off eBay, sportex race tube good bit of kit, if you have a cat it won't make much of a difference in sound but if a precat, buy the decat pipe too and a nice back box and she will sound mint believe me I set car alarms off lol.

what engine?

if XE or ecotec, I have a used and new GM one and back box. with a decat you will really notice it running better, smoother and they sound great, just nice and parpy, not stupid loud.
if XE, I have a big bore manifold and decat too. think the straight decat fits ecotec too. will have to check.
