What is everyones thoughts on LPG?
With all that's going on at the minute and the general cost of a LPG setup - is it worth investing in?
I've toyed with the idea for a while now, anyone have a kit fitted and what are your findings?
Thanks.
LPG conversions.

What do you mean by that?Envoy CDX wrote:With all that's going on at the minute
Are you planning to keep your car for a long time, and do you plan to do a lot of miles during that period? If so, the cost of an LPG kit and/or installation makes sense, although you will increase your service and maintenance activities, and you are likely to lose power when running LPG. It's a popular mod on Omegas (Stag kits are a common sight under the bonnet of the large barge), but the biggest complaint from owners that I've spoken to comes in the form of dismay that there are very few people who know what they're doing when it comes to fixing LPG system faults.
Re: LPG conversions.
after market kits effect insurance premiums quite severly.
also the gas works better the more cylinders you have. its ok with 4 but have heard of idling issues.

I don't have much power to loose as it is. However, milage is going to be greatly effected as things stand currently whilst I get the house turned around and somewhere near they way I need it to be. Just thinking long term mainly.
Hmm, food for thought, probably overkill for a little 1.4 then?btcctroy wrote:after market kits effect insurance premiums quite severly.

Re: LPG conversions.
id say a 2litre as minimum gary.
youd save nothing as more gas would be needed to keep the thing going.
works great on v6s v8s etc.
i nearly had it fitted on the v6 when i had it

Re: LPG conversions.
Also works better on Carb systems.
It is a common modification on the 80's VW camper vans.
The flat four water-boxers are very thirsty.
(Low 20's mpg).
In which case LPG works out about half the price for a tank compared to petrol.
And I recall LPG being discussed twice on "Wheeler Dealers".
Carb set ups were easier to install and half as expensive.
But yes bigger thirstier engines benefit most from LPG.
There are various systems including mpi, spi and batch-fire mpi.
Your 1.4 is not a particular thirsty engine for it's time...
A more modern 1.4 set-up or similar would be more efficient and refined than a 17 year old set up.
