Hello guys, having a spot of trouble, I want to service my cavalier 1.8L auto carburettor model, but can't seem to find the fuel filter for it I have looked near the tank but can't see it, would I have to jack the car up it is it hidden away somewhere, all
Help appreciated in advance thanks

It should be at the back of the car between the fuel tank and spare wheel well, nested at the top of the fuel tank facing towards the back of the car.

Thanks Dave, so I wouldn't really see it just looking under car lol I was like where is it but now I know where so il have a look tommoro also is it akward to change as of the place it's in or you guys got any tips to make it easier lol thanks

If its setup anything like the 1600 carb engine they dont have a fuel filter, Just a small mesh type thing in one of the the fuel ports on the carb.

It's a 1800 so il hAve a look but if no luck il be back lol

Hello I'm back had no luck finding the filter under the car looked oppersite to exhaust, so driver side rear near the bracket on fuel tank between spare tyre well and tank, rang a few motor factors an some said no fuel filter listed then said no there is one mine is a 1800 carb so don't know where else to look, also if it has the 1600 set up, how do I change the filter or the mesh inside the carburettor or do i leave it and just do the oil, air and plugs please help as want to get the service done this week

Hello me again I opened the air box at the top of the carburettor, and looked through both holes couldn't see nothing but next to one hole I found a square mesh thing would this be the filter for the fuel I posted up the picture below

That looks like the Pierburg 2E3 set-up like I had on my Mk2.

The yellow cannister with the pig-tail fuel pipe is a vapour separator.
Separates water from the fuel.
I am sure that the filter is a tiny conical filter tucked into the carburettor body behind the fuel inlet stub.
No other filter as such.

I think its meant to have one of these on the fuel pipe going to the carb:

I couldnt find a in-line filter near the carburettor all I found was a mesh square thing on the body I the carburettor which was next to one of the holes on the carburettor, can't see nothing else which is a mesh, lol

You would need to take the fuel inlet pipe off the body of the carb.
Ideally, if you have one of those bent-screwdriver thingies that get used for hooking O-rings out, you can then winkle the fuel filter out of the pipe union that you've just removed the fuel inlet pipe from. The filter itself is known as a 'witch's hat' - you'll see why when you remove it.

Flush in solvent, check for cleanliness and re-insert.
