Straight exhaust

Post by joe cavalier sri »

Hi I've had my spare wheel well cut out and a ribbed for strength and to stop it flapping about so this means I can have from down pipe to back box a straight pipe apart from bend over axel . Will the gases exit quicker with a straight system than the standard way on my hatch cav ? I was going to heat wrap it to or get it ceramic coated I know it will be louder cheers

If there are no silencers then yes the gases will escape much faster and it will be a lot louder, depending on the size of the tail pipe, but when I had a straight through exhaust on my old 1.8 auto, it made it slower and it didn't sound right. Maybe on powerful engines it makes a difference but for me it made things worse. Also not sure if the MOT test will go well with that set up.

Am I a light sleeper or a heavy sleeper? Well that depends on how much I've had to drink...

I have a mot tester that will pass it as long as rest of car is safe which it will be like new by the time I'm finished :thumb

Delayed action reply:

All I can say is to pass on what the exhaust specialist told me when he was fitting mine:

If it's efficiency you want then this has got far more to do with the design of the manifold that fits "upstream" onto the cylinder block (he was not very complimentary about the standard VX one) compared with the silencers and fancy bits and pieces that are fitted "downstream". On the other hand if it's appearances and acoustics that are the priority then other rules apply.

Won't make no difference from its normal position to being straight. On most engines it's the manifold and down pipe where theyre restricted.

I have a stainless exhaust for sale, 3inch downpipe , 2.5 inch back to back box, back box has 4inch round inward rolled back pipe, no centre boxes just straight through to back box, this cost me 600pounds to get fabricated, don't know iif it will fit your cav Joe, but I'm looking for 150 pounds if you are interested, Ads
