Fuel tank paint (external)

Has anyone painted the exterior of their petrol tank? I am going to buy a new tank and want to paint it to add extra protection against wear and chips - any suggestions? I wondered if something like Dinitrol stone chip would be fine?

I painted the fuel tank of the CD manual with dinitrol.
It's been fine for well over a year now.
