Evening all,

I'm in the process of fixing the front end of the Cav as a result of a prang. What I'd like to know is whether or not I can block of what I understand to be the exhaust recirc unit just above the manifold. It got knocked in the crash and is all bent etc. Rather than trying to repair it, I was wondering if it is of any use or if the engine is better off having it removed or blocked off.

I can't see why you wouldn't be able to.

I know it's perfectly possible to remove the EGR valve on the 1.6 and 1.8 as I've done so myself on my LS.

How you would go about doing it on the X20XEV I'm not sure.

I heard/read that this whole system is very restrictive, so removing it as it's damaged would be killing two birds with one stone.

Anyone on here done this?

I think you can just remove the pipe and bung it up.

Apparently blanking plate is not available anymore but one can be fabricated. Search for 'blanking plate' in search section.

Plug the pipe as said.

Remove the EGR / Exhaust Gas Recirculation valve.

And fabricate a steel plate to block off the hole in the inlet manifold where it used to be.

A bit of sawing, drilling and filing shouldn't take you too long.

Don't forget to make up a paper / cardboard gasket.

Lastly, don't leave the vac pipe connection at the carb/SPI end open! Stupid things happen when Cavs have vac leaks... like stupid people thinking it's something else entire...
