Smell of petrol on mk2 convertible

This car has covered only 7000 miles from new.
The rubber fuel pipes filter and pump have been changed.
It has just "failed to proceed" in France and the garage have had the fuel tank professionally cleaned out and checked for leaks.
It now runs fine but there is a smell of fuel after you switch off. Looking at other posts it seems that it could be the fuel breather pipe that goes to the fuel filler area..
How do I replace this? It is a 1.8i by the way.
