Pierburg 2E3 throttle damper

Post by martinr »

Forgive me: it’s on an Opel Kadett rather than a Mk3 Cavalier, but I wonder if anyone’s ever renewed the throttle damper on the carb (fitted to automatic transmission models)? The damping action was lost years ago but it all works perfectly well without it on deceleration. Nevertheless, if possible it would be good to replace it. The original part seems to be GM part 90107426, which is no longer available, but there are probably other types that would fit. So I post on the off-chance someone might have been down this road before.

Hi Martin,

Be aware that the 2E3 is a very common 80's and early 90's fitment carburettor.
Even some of the 80's VW camper vans were fitted with them. (DG engine).

I will have a look later to see if I can find info on other makes and part numbers for you.

Regards,
Rob.

Thank you, Rob; that’s most kind. During my searches, it seems the same damper might also have been used on Saab 900s, but I’ve drawn a blank there, too.

There’s no indication that the failure of the damper has any adverse effect, so please don’t waste any time on it.

Hi Martin,

GPS have the part number you requested in stock at about £45.

http://www.genuinepartsearch.co.uk

Strangely Auto Vaux who is another name for the same company quote £57 for the same part.

Both quote as "in stock".

Hope that helps.

Many thanks, Rob. You’ve given me some great resources to try, most of which I was unaware of. So a big “thank you”!
