2.0 8v slow idle
Robsey, my CD 2.0 8v has a very low tickover speed, it's about 650. Yes it has the black octane plug. Do you happen to have a part number for the yellow one? I was going to try Auto Vaux but would be interested in any suggestions.

Re: 2.0 8v slow idle
Phoned them, alas not available. They tried their connections but no luck. I went on line and found one in Moscow and some in South America. I tried Vauxhall Green Parts but no luck there either.
Then amazing luck. I phoned the person who bought the remaining stock from the Ex Vauxhall Dealer in Swanage without any hope. Actually they were the original suppliers of my CD. I could not believe my luck. One in stock at £5!
It was only a sixty mile round trip so it's now fitted with an 850 tick over. I can't understand why previous owners did not get it sorted. Looking at the plug, and the difficulty in removing it, I reckon it's the original. So, probably, 99,976 miles with the wrong plug!
Thanks again for your advice and support.

Re: 2.0 8v slow idle
That's a result! Good news.
I guess the plugs have different value resistors fitted?

Good news about getting it sorted.
I would suspect that most Cavaliers will have the same octane plug for their entire lifetime.
They are only changed if one is fitted in the factory, but is found later to be unsuitable.
Such as black plugs fitted to a C20NE.
Octane plugs do not fail, as they are little more than three pins in a row.
With each outer pin connected to the centre pin via a resistor. Each resistor has a different value.
Different resistance values tell the ECU what configuration / settings to use.
Many cavaliers can run without an octane plug fitted. An "open circuit" will often provide a set of working settings.
Strange that GPS would have allowed me to buy and pay for three octane plugs online last night, despite having no physical stock.
Another reason why I always say phone them up before ordering.

Re: 2.0 8v slow idle
Robsey, thanks for your assistance. The link was very interesting. I have only recently re- started my interest in Cavaliers hence my frequent requests for information. I feel quite guilty about raiding your time and knowledge. Now, if you need to know anything about Morris Minors (1948 onwards) I have had a lifetime trying to keep them going!

I have worked on an early 70's Woody.
The electrics were very basic.
About 10 wires and 4 fuses made it very simple to work on.
As for raiding my knowledge - that is the whole point of forums.
