Cavalier x20xev air intake pipes

Post by Mightymouse1974 »

Hi all, on the air intake pipe between the air box and the air flow meter there is another pipe coming off the bottom of it. Where does this pipe go to in the car??. Thanks in advance

Not sure about those engines but it could possibly be a vacuum hose which goes to the throttle body area maybe? Is it a very thin plastic pipe?

The blanked off pipe is slightly curved and sits behind and to the side of the alternator drivebelt pulley.
It's very close so make sure there's a clearance when you reassemble - my first car's one had a hole worn through it when I got it.
I still don't know what it's for though. Airflow, moisture trap, stash :scratch

Looking at TIS, it would appear to go to one of the two stubs for crank case ventilation at the rear of the camshaft cover.

It appears to go to the stub closest to the timing belt end of the engine.

If I'm on the right track it's part no. 5 you're talking about?

I must admit the rest of the illustration means nothing to me, I've had ecotec for 20 years and have no knowledge of anything in the lower half. A resonator? What's that?

The resonator is an air receiver box intended to reduce air intake noise to the air filter.

Usually mounted low down behind the bumper, below the right headlamp or there-abouts.

If you remember the loud suction noise of the old volvos (240, 760 etc), then you will know what I mean.

I love the sound of an old Volvo. Brings back happy memories of my childhood. My dad always used to buy brand new 240 estate's. The last one he kept for about 18 years until it wore out. Up till then he had replaced them every 2-3 years.
