Where is the security code stored in the ECU?

Post by vexorg »

I've got a friend that's bought a second hand v6 ecu, it didn't come with the security.

Can it be found by any means other than vauxhall?
I'm not even sure vauxhall is an option since he doesn't know the car it came from or any any proof such as v5.

If it's stored in the eprom then I could read it out, but I'd be surprised, as I imagine they'd want a common eprom for all cars.
So where would it be stored?

I am assuming you are talking about a V6 Cavalier / Calibra ECU?

If you find the part number for the ECU, I could potentially identify what vehicle and engine code it is intended for.
Even better if you also have the two-letter alpha-code

I suspect that it would indeed be stored in the Eeprom, but you would need to know what type of Eeprom it is, and which hex digits refer to the security code.

UPDATE - ALL V6 part numbers and alpha-codes listed below.

I havdn't gone down the route of Vectra-C, Signum etc

C25XE ECU parts numbers.
90 444 156 -alpha code PN
Cavalier / Calibra without Immobiliser.

90 510 671 - alpha code HE.
Cavalier / Calibra with Immobiliser

X25XE ECU part numbers (Calibra only).

90 541 693 - alpha code TX
Without Immobiliser

90 541 689 - alpha code KC
replaced by 93 173 189 - alpha code KC
with immobiliser.

It's a calibra, but identical to cavalier. And with the immobiliser. I'm not sure a non-immobiliser one would have a security code.

Nope it wouldn't need a code.

(I have removed the non-Calibra / Cavalier options).
