Fuel tank sender problem

Post by jgwilliamson »

Hi all,

In the process of replacing the old fuel hoses on the fuel tank of my 1993 1.8i LS auto prior to refitting I have snapped the (very rusty) return metal pipe that is integrated into the fuel sender unit. (See link to photo).

Assuming that the sender is not repairable, can anyone suggest where I might get a replacement?

I'd also appreciate some advice on how to remove the sender from the tank as it does not look like it will want to move easily.

Many thanks in advance.

From memory, it is removed from the tank by twisting out the white plastic cap. (Anti-clockwise - right hand thread).
It is very tight due to being there for a long time and fitted with a rubber seal.

You should still be able to get replacement senders for the Cavalier.

Hi Robsey,
Thanks for the quick reply.
Good to know the part is still available. Any suggestions for the best place to look?
Cheers

Hi John,

The part number is
90 443 382

I had a quick google, but other than in Brazil (Chevrolet Vectra), I cannot see one on sale at present.

Apologies, not as easy to get as I thought.

It is a Cavalier mk3 - standard car part.
Not GSi or 4x4 turbo as the tank is different.

The calibra ones went obsolete about 10 years ago, I'd imagine the cav ones are also now non existent other than the hughely over prices ones on ebay.
