couple of v6 fault codes, advice greatly appreciated

Post by humbucker »

hiya

as you will see from my WIP thread (viewtopic.php?f=21&t=2581) i have just fitted 3.0L X30XE cams into my cavalier. after everything was put back together i've got a couple of fault codes that i was hoping you could help me with.

16 Knock signal circuit - no voltage change
19 Incorrect RPM signal (Crankshaft sensor - incorrect signal)

should point out that the engine wasn't on, just ignition. would this produce error 19? i seem to recall reading somewhere that 19 comes up if the engine isn't on, but i might be wrong...

i think everything is where it should be... if its not a plug in the wrong way around any other ideas? could it be a split wire or something similar? not really sure where to start looking tbh...

I cant see a sensor failure just from unplugging, have you checked for crushed wires caught?

i'll have to have a closer look. certainly nothing was trapped under cam cover when it was replaced; will have to double check what wire is where. we did have a wire that needed some electrical tape to secure it so maybe it's broken inside but not sure it was knock sensor.

yeah will double check it in daylight and see which one it was. i just wondered from the experience of others on the site if the error code was a 'ah thats 99% this' kind of thing. i'll check the wire in question and hopefully that will be the problem sorted.

what does 'no voltage change' actually mean in real world terms?

I'd say the worn wire is the most likely as these are usually twin core and the slightest contact will cause a fault.
