Exhaust knocking problem....

Post by HooCDX »

Hope someone can help me out here before I end up changing random bits to fix the problem.

The CDX is a 2.0 16v Auto 1994 (not a red top). When turning in to a left hand turn or going over a large bump the exhaust knocks against the heatshield between the gear shift and handbrake where the hanger is. The exhaust is not particularly well aligned and sits toward the drivers side in the tunnel.

Having had several BL FWD's, these had a tendancy to suffer with exhaust movement when the engine mounts were on their way. Does the Cav suffer with a similar problem? Or will getting the exhaust hung properly solve the bloody annoying knock......

The car has only covered 42k from new and has only done 6k since 1998. Since buying her in September I've replaced both lower suspension arms and the track rod ends plus all four tyres due to rubber perishing.....

Any advice or experiences of a similar probem would be a massive help. :cry

Thanks folks

George

Loosen all your exhaust, refit, starting from the front, using new rubbers all the way, gotta be worth a try??

Yep, just realign it all with some new rubbers, should be fine.

The only other thing is - has it got the right centre pipe or is it a poor aftermark exhaust - we used to have so many problems with these in my vauxhall days :(

yep check quality of exhaust some cheap systems fit badly, other wise loosen and refit as said and get some new rubber mounts as dirt cheap from your local exhaust centre, also check none of the exhaust heat shield bolts havnt snapped meaning the exhaust and shield will be closer, you will also get a rattle if that happens!
