Engine Conversion
Engine Conversion
Will an astra coupe turbo engine fit into my Cav SRI with not alot of hassle ?
Re: Engine Conversion
As in changing engine loom?
Re: Engine Conversion
as in wiring in probably 20-30 wires into your existing cavalier loom, its not a simple job.
You always you use the engine loom off the new engine.
Its one of those situations if you have to ask you probably cant do it.
Would be a lot simpler to fit a c20let or c20xe

Re: Engine Conversion
I thought you said you were selling it because you couldn't afford the insurance? The insurance for a modified, turbocharged car will be even higher?
"No the temperature gauge doesn't work........
we've driven 150 miles today........
the heater went cold last Thursday........
they check the level when it's serviced don't they?"

Driving my clio now...and yeah insurance is abit to high a month...but iv now had a change of heart and having this as a project then insuring it later on.
Re: Engine Conversion
Honestly i doubt someone would take the job on its complicated and would cost you probably more than you want to pay.ashs_cav wrote:Yeah was looking to c20let...just not as common to find...plus the coupe turbo is more modern....would I be able to pay someone to wire into my cav loom you rekon?
z20let is more modern but lets face it they are mostly 100k+ and just as highmileage as any other used engine, so its going to cost you for new bits anyway.
Re: Engine Conversion
Supose....my uncle did a full car loom change on a corsa for an engine a think but cant remember the full story...the c20 sounds more apealing the more I know haha..
Has the coupe turbo been done before in a cav?

Re: Engine Conversion
swapping a loom is childs play.
Turbodan did it in his cav turbo, thats why i know exactly how much work is involved.
C20let plugs in.....

Re: Engine Conversion
C20let is hard to come by...few sold on ebay...but only from cars being broken though...be good if somewhere sold rebuilt ones
Re: Engine Conversion
the issue with rebuilt ones is how much they have been rebuilt at least if you get someone to do it for you you know exactly whats done rathen than someone giving it a few new gaskets and some paint.

Re: Engine Conversion
I cant understand why anyone would want to source a c20let for a conversion when the saab is so much cheaper and probably better.
Unless its for a cavalier turbo then the b204 is so much better in my opinion.

Re: Engine Conversion
the wiring? I've heard this is so much more complex than people make out for the saab lumps. some people are happy to fit different engines when the wiring is fairly simple, but not so keen if they are not confident on the electrics!bennymac36 wrote:I cant understand why anyone would want to source a c20let for a conversion when the saab is so much cheaper and probably better.

Re: Engine Conversion
Is the saab a straight forward as the c20let?
Re: Engine Conversion
i believe not. but worth it as there is a good chance of finding a good engine cheap, and they can handle much more power on stock internals.

Re: Engine Conversion
The saab engine is a straight fit the rad needs changing to the saab one too. Theres a guy on migweb astranige who makes the wiring adaptors. £300 should see a good saab b204 engine.
Re: Engine Conversion
They run enough torque for a 6 speed f28?
Re: Engine Conversion
How do you mean enough tourque?
You can run an f28 on any engine you want to, doesnt matter what power its running.

Re: Engine Conversion
Sorry was confused with something else woth diesel boxes....
Have been looking into the b204
Seems to be alot of tuning options regarding tdo4 turbos and t25s with intercoolers and deletes with filters and mapping
Anyone know a good start to tuning these engine from experience?

Re: Engine Conversion
I mentioned earlier there is a guy called nigel who has one in his astra, he cleans injectors and maps the saab stuff including removing the immobiliser etc.ashs_cav wrote:Sorry was confused with something else woth diesel boxes....

don't think he is on here he is on migweb go look you will see its considerably better on many fronts like more power available and arguably a stronger more reliable base engine...... I still love my c20let though lol I did buy the saab lump initially for my car and I was trying to see how much work is involved to get the 4x4 working but my friends in the community convinced me to fit a standard engine to match my standard restored car ha ha.
Re: Engine Conversion
Saab engine does sound good but...look wise...they dont.
