Alloy referb
Anyone know how much it would cost to get a set of fanblade alloys reconditioned to a fairly good standard?
Anyone know of any good places that do Alloy wheel repairs?
One of the wheels on the Diplomat has started to leak air slowly.

Approx 160-200 I would imagine, or give it a stab yourself?

Depends how far you want to go. There are mobile alloy repair guys who will sort you out for £25 a corner. They'll use their stock silver and get the wheel tidied up. Or you could go down a more thorough route, albeit more expensive, and have them acid dipped, straightened/filled and painted/powdercoated/lacquered, balanced and tyres refitted. That sort of service can still be had for a good price. I think I paid £45 a wheel for my Turbo alloys to be acid dipped, media blasted, straightened, repaired and smoothed, primed, powdercoated with the addition of a sparkle flake, lacquered and then my new tyres fitted and balanced. Something like that. So I guess cost is anywhere in between the two depending on what you're after?
Worth noting that you'd pay at least a tenner a corner for tyre fitting and balancing at your local fit-shop anyway. If you went for paint over powdercoating you'd save a few quid too.

This is the place I took mine to: http://www.classic-coatings.co.uk/. They also did all the other powdercoating for me at the same time (bonnet stay, cam cover, timing belt cover, strut tops, springs etc etc). Pics of the work in progress, as well as the finished article(s), in my project thread

Ah yes if it's just a leak you can get this sorted for a tenner at your local independent tyre fitter. That way you can see if it's a recurring problem. They'll be able to tell you where the problem on the rim is too.

Just a quick update to provide you with some helpful info. I was flicking through the car's history folder and the receipt for the powdercoated wheels was staring me in the face. I thought it worth updating the thread with the actual costs I paid for my wheels to be refurbed. According to the receipt, it was £45 a wheel to remove the old paint and tyres, acid dip, media blast, powdercoat in silver with an added sparkle, lacquer etc. I also had the centre caps coated to match the wheels. I paid a further £45 (in total) for two of the wheels to be straightened and repaired before the coating process. It was another tenner per wheel for tyre fitting and balancing when the work was complete.
So in total £55 a wheel including tyre fitting and balancing (plus a further £22.50 for each wheel that required repair work).

Great thanks guys!
I was quoted £340 by "The Wheel Specialist" so I don't think I'll be going to them!
I'll give them a ring Paul, Thanks!

Just so you know, you literally get what you pay for with any bodyshop repairs, be it a wheel refurb or a full respray.
Don't just go for the cheapest coz you will regret it!

Not always the case. But vastly trueTurboDan wrote:Just so you know, you literally get what you pay for with any bodyshop repairs, be it a wheel refurb or a full respray.
