Post by v6sri »

this pre facelift sri im gettin needs a new lump and im thinkin of puttin an ecotec in ,shuld be good cus there more avalibal then a xe or 8v plus it wont need a cat :D

what im wounderin is if i cant get a hole car as a doner im just gunna get all the bits

low miler ecotec engine-using 8v cr box clutch and flywheel
loom,ecu
o/s engine mount
mainifold and downpipe

have i listed all the bits im gunna need or have i missed bits?
will i have any probs??
and what sort of muney do ya think all these bits would add up 2,or would it be better waiting for a donna with a low miler engine ??£200/£250??

complete waste of time mate, the ecotech lump is not a wise move, it would be cheaper and better in the long run to keep it an 8v and either fix the lump you have or replace it with another 8v, they are bomb proof engines!

bit pointless changing it from an 8v to an eco though? the 8v engines are ultra reliable and with a few subtle changes they can shift :D

There's a ported 8v head on ebay at the moment @ £20.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2-0-8v-ported-and ... 240%3A1318

That might be a good start?!

On the subject of 1.8 8v's, does anybody know if the different versions of 1.8 and 2.0 share the same block, with any differences in the head and/or crank, or are the bores different?

Sorry for the (kinda related!) hijack.

Blocks are simular, well the only difference is the bores between the 1.8 and 2lt

Heads are simular but have a slight difference in then due to one single point, the other multi point injection

Cams are interchangable between 1.8 and 2lt 8v engines

HTH

Btw, whats actually wrong with the current 8v fitted??

other than oil pressure problems detaching conrods, blowing holes in the block and water injest they cant be killed

only prob with a redtop head on the 8v block it the piston isnt pocketed for the valves if you get me you will end up with valve piston slap

you can fit it with 2 head gaskets but then you will lose power

the seh and ne have a different compersoin raito when heads or on no point in puting a 1.8 head on it when you can just skim the 2.0 head witch will leave it the same in the end

dont fit an eco tec just try and get a 130 engine and drop that in to her or a 130 head cam and brain and fit that to a 115 bhp block
