Smart phones
I'm not the world's greatest fan of smart phones but am I the only noddy that has difficulties navigating and using the website with these things? Is there a secret to it other than reading glasses and female pointed finger nails?

Re: Smart phones
Ye. Stick to a computer like the average person. Phones are for calling and texting.

Re: Smart phones
I do about 95% of my surfing on my Samsung S4 Mini Android phone.
Totally portable - 2 Gb of data. - Just totally convenient for my needs.
It has a lot fewer hang ups than many of the PCs and laptops that I have used.
The only 2 niggles I have is the regular pop ups asking if I want to open forum web pages with the Tapatalk App.
and
A very worrying predictive texting - it insists on trying to use vulgar terms when typing totally inoquous conversations.
My usage of phones is to read web pages in "Landscape mode" and to write in "Portrait Mode".
(Don't forget to enable "Auto screen rotation").

Re: Smart phones
There must be a trick to reading forum pages and even more to clicking on links etc with an S3 which is what I have now upgraded to. I could understand if this was a forum for Swiss watchmakers (OK my SRi runs with clockwork precision but I don't need a dedicated forum to brag about it)

Have you considered tapatalk?

Re: Smart phones
I thought that Tapatalk was - well I don't know quite what. Is there a Tapatalk app that magically makes the forum screen larger? Actually I did "tap" on something unknown once that had the effect of magnifying the forum screen, but since then I have not been able to replicate it.

Re: Smart phones
That is quite an easy one.
Make a pincer like grip with your thumb and fore finger.
Put both finger tips on the screen and then move your finger tips apart
The web page will expand as your finger tips move apart.
Or tap twice very quickly on any image and it will suddenly zoom much bigger.
Double tap again and it will shrink back.
I use an S2 and an S4-mini.
Both work fine.
If in doubt, there are user manuals on your phone.
Just a matter of knowing where it is.
On the S4 it is in my browser pages.
I stopped using tapatalk because it kept coming up with "topics of today", only to find that the last post was a month ago.
And a few months back, it used to freeze up a lot.
So I just look at all forums without tapatalk.

Re: Smart phones
Problem solved, the new forum format is a lot more usable on a phone. I always used tapatalk before, but I don't need to now

Re: Smart phones
Thanks for the positive feedback, Chris. The new layout is designed to work across a number of different browser dimensions, with the content adjusting accordingly (see content expand/reveal itself as you tip your mobile from portrait to landscape and back again). This way, no zooming is required, and the essentials are always on screenvauxtillidie wrote:first time I've seen the new forum today and works well on my iPhone where as before I would be forever zooming in and out etc

Ah - like many features,
those are only visible in laptop / pc format.
No cakes are visible in mobile format.
More seriously though - there are some icons visible at the top of the pc / laptop format web page,
but none of these are visible in mobile / tablet format.
Other than that - a lot of the links that people hunger for are there, it just needs a bit of lateral thought to find them.

Nope nothing there
I'll post up pictures later.
From my Galaxy S4 mini and my laptop.
