Help with centre consol/VDO gauges
In the cubby hole that should have the VDO gauges in there is this plastic shelf that I found I can move about half an inch backwards, it clearly was designed to be removed but after some pushing and wiggling I cannot find how to remove it - has anyone else managed this?

Re: Help with centre consol/VDO gauges
You don't need to remove it to fit the gauges mate, just drill a hole in the back of the unit to run a wire through. Then remove ashtray and get your fingers in there to guide the wire through.

Cheers 'Dre. I was thinking about removing it completely to help with access to rear of radio and the possibility of running so e extra lighting up the back for the heater panel...all just speculation at the moment.

Glove box out, reach round and give it a tug, clearance is scarce though as the heater box is fairly close behind that cubby.

Re: Help with centre consol/VDO gauges
I took it out in my purple cav... Had to take half the dash out to get it out decently...
In the loon I just drilled a hole as we did with Andrai and mikes...
Get a metal coat hanger or garden wire to help with routing wires...
Should be all good

Re: Help with centre consol/VDO gauges
Spent far too much time destroying it with the drill and snapping into bits to remove it. Now I have a nice easy hand reach for any behind fascia work, especially when it comes to installing my new radio.

Re: Help with centre consol/VDO gauges
If I didn't have to change speedo, gaiters and bulbs, and modify the radio housing to secure a short cage I would have gone down your route (especially if I'd known what was involved at the time !)
I'd probably run round the inside edges with a dremel and the little cutting disks
