abs module

Post by sribobby »

Can anyone tell me briefly what the symptoms of a dodgy abs module are? Light comes on at 40mph and its giving me 3 fault codes. This just happened over night. Cant see how it would go from fine to 3 different codes at once!

Agreed -
Would only be guess work or speculation without the codes.

One was driver side rear sensor, another was abs ring. Cant remember the third one. Just thought it strange to have three codes at once. Rings also look good, i put a new one on last year after the light came on and had no problems untill now. Brake pedal is very spongy even after bleeding with eezibleed. I have a new master cylinder but haven't got around to putting it on yet.

Update - I'm now only getting one fault code which is 25, toothed ring gear. I suppose that means ill have to change them all? Unless one looks totally shot compared to the others. Can rear rings be bought separately?

Jeez I'm glad to see this is a very helpful forum. I'd b safer buying a ford Capri lol cuz there's not much responses about cavalier issues here.

Sorry dear chap.

I only reply if I think I know the answers.

Strangely, I have never had to look at the toothed rings on my Cav and at present it is miles away in the hands of Troy, so I cannot nip out and see.
I have no idea whether they can be bought separately or not.
My gut thought is that they come as part of the hub...
I will have look it up later when I get home.

Usually the quickest way to find out is go to ebay and search for "vauxhall cavalier abs" and see what comes back.

Rear ABS ring you say...

Okay had a look at the ECAT24 website.

http://ecat24.com/opel/catalog/part/1/39/490/991/10004/

According to that you are looking at item 16.
Pulse generator

The pulse generator only is still listed as available.

The one "with hub" says no longer available.

Part numbers are: -

GM code - 530443
Opel Number - 90334889

Or
GM code - 530434
Opel Number - 90216274

So yes it looks like rings are available individually.
Hope that helps..

The problem I had was the rear ring is a plastic push fit thing and one of mine started to ease itself out causing the ABS to operate intermittently while braking normally but no light on the dash though. Pushed it back into place problem solved.

The search menu isn't that good. Type in abs and it brings up everything under the sun with the letters abs in it. Better than nothing though
