Re: My 46k 2.0 LS Cavalier
Great to see so many low mileage Mk3s turning up on the forum. Amazing to think how many keep emerging from hibernation, especially when viewed against the number of Sierras/Sapphires from the same era.
Is that an Acclaim parked next to you? Complete with Weekend at Bernie's dead driver?

Re: My 46k 2.0 LS Cavalier
Yep triumph acclaim. The driver sat there for nearly the whole show with both his parents in the back.
Re: My 46k 2.0 LS Cavalier
I pleased to report that after 2000 miles, the old girl hasn't missed a beat. Also almost unbelievable I'm getting an average of 35mpg . In the next couple of weeks I'll be giving her a full service and I've finally got around to ordering some alloy wheel bolts.
The other thing that I've been meaning to do is to fit a towbar, tonight I've just bought one very cheaply off eBay, any tips for fitting please?

Re: My 46k 2.0 LS Cavalier
Nice looking Cav!
I fitted mudflap all round as they do keep the stones and grit at bay, rears got fitted to the bumper and the fronts were fitted to the wheel arch liners, works well with no fear of damaged paint & rust!
The 2l 8v is good on fuel, with the wide ratio box I have had over 50 mpg.

Re: My 46k 2.0 LS Cavalier
Nice example, 22's old enough for shows given so few about, though wish I was 22 again
Re: My 46k 2.0 LS Cavalier
I feel it is old enough, however most shows say it's too new etc. What really annoyed me was my local show (Abergavenny ) said it had to be made before 1991 to be accepted yet there was an N reg Rolls Royce on display. So what they are really saying it has to be expensive to be on show there?!?
When did you last see a cavalier on the road that wasn't yours? Surely being nearly extinct makes them show worthy and the design dates back to 1988 anyway. When ever I'm out in mine it draws attention, I've even got quite a long list in the glove box of people's phone numbers who want a chance at buying it if I ever decide to sell.( I've also been flagged down by a guy called Micheal Buffton who wanted to buy the number plate.)
On a different note does anybody know where I can find the paint code for mine or what it is please?

Re: My 46k 2.0 LS Cavalier
That looks like Nautilus Green Mica Pearlescent.
EPC doesn't fully describe your car.
C20NE Engine built in Kaiserslautern
Assembled in Luton in 1994
SC303 Radio
5 Speed Manual
Paint Z1Y two coat.
Instruments MPH with Tachometer
With ABS
195/60 R14-85H tyres on Steel Wheel Rims.
70 Amp Alternator
44 Amp Battery.
From the cloth trim description, it looks like LSi spec.
As for paint colour this is not stated.
I would say 14L or 283 Nautilus Green.
The code is on the bottom left corner of your vin plate
3 dgits for paint code and 3 or 4 digits for trim level.
Mine says -
13L 82I
(Polar Sea Blue with Grey interior Trim).
I would expect your plate to say
14L in the bottom corner.

Re: My 46k 2.0 LS Cavalier
Thankyou for the information. Looks like you know more about my car than I do, lol. I'll have a look at the plate this morning thanks.
Re: My 46k 2.0 LS Cavalier
You didn't spot my senior moment.
The photo and the heading both clearly have LS in them - ha ha.

Re: My 46k 2.0 LS Cavalier
I'll just blame it on being tired. Got to admit I a weird kind of way I like this being quite a basic spec, it reminds me of my first two cavaliers- A white 1.6 1989 G reg L spec,( that I wrote off when I was young and stupid in 1999, and a Gun metal Grey 1991 H reg, again 1.6 L spec in 2001 that I sold after the MOT inspector spotted some serious rot in the rear chassis legs(still gave me a ticket though).Robsey wrote:You didn't spot my senior moment.

They must of left an impression though as here I am 15 years later.
Re: My 46k 2.0 LS Cavalier
Looked the paint code up ,its 14 L. When ive put this into ebay and google it seems to usually come up with blue of various names, but i'd swear blind that my car is green. Is there any reason for this or is there more than one 14 L?
Re: My 46k 2.0 LS Cavalier
It is a greeny-blue colour.
For some reason, whenever green is not a pure colour, they no longer call it green.
Your's is a very dark variation on turquoise, and all turquoises are called blue.
All you need to know is that it is Nautilus Green or Nautilus Blue.

Re: My 46k 2.0 LS Cavalier
Thanks for the info. Perhaps its because a lot of people still consider green cars to be unlucky?Robsey wrote:It is a greeny-blue colour.

Today I treated the old girl to a full wash down and wax. I'm ashamed to say that I got nearly half a bucket of mud out from the rear arches. Don't want her to rot out!
I also had a go and regluing the fabric to the bit of trim that runs down the inside of the windscreen. I would say that the previous owner had been here before and the new glue didn't take to well.
Does anyone have a spare in this colour that they want to sell please? The other slightly irritating thing with my car is the outside temperature display usually doesn't work and when it does it tends to show a ramdom higher temperature than it actually is. Does anyone know how to cure this?

Re: My 46k 2.0 LS Cavalier
The fabric on the same A pillar is beginning to go on my Diplomat, blasted thing.
Some glues will actually make the problem worse as they will eat into the fabric and most don't last.
I know a great little company that specialises in car interiors who re-trimmed my headlining, also on the Diplomat.
So eventually I'll take it to them and have it properly re-upholstered.
Try replacing the air temp sensor.

Re: My 46k 2.0 LS Cavalier
Yes you can get them form Vauxhall.
They have used the same parts in pretty much every Vauxhall since the Cavalier including the current Insignia, Astra and Corsa.
Subsequently, you can find them pretty much anywhere; eBay, Amazon, euro car parts you name it.
Make sure you get a genuine packed part though.

Thanks, I've just ordered it, I know it's only a minor detail on an old car but things like that really bug me. Unless it gets written off I plan on keeping this for nearly ever, so want it to be nearly perfect.James McGrath wrote:Yes you can get them form Vauxhall.

Re: My 46k 2.0 LS Cavalier
Can anybody recommend any smart type repairers? I'd like to get the couple of very minor scuffs on the bumper blown in but they're nowhere near bad enough for the whole bumpers to be resprayed.

You may want to add a location to your profile, just the county would do.
It's just so we can recommend places near to your location rather than places which may be on the other end of the country.

Re: My 46k 2.0 LS Cavalier
Today I fitted the temperature sensor and am very pleased to say James was right, it cured the problem straight away.
I also replaced the broken sunvisor clip.
When I was underneath the car I noticed a very small weep on the gearbox. Does anybody know how I can check the level and what oil I should use?
