Cursa B - Was supposed to be a mini project but here we are!
Re: Cursa B - Was supposed to be a mini project but here we
Strut top bearing?
Common for groans and creaks when turning.
I noticed that the Corsa has been renamed a Cursa (Curse a).
It will be something and nothing...

Yup, its not exactly a winter project anymore - and to be honest it really is starting to irritate me.Robsey wrote:Strut top bearing?

Strut top bearings looked fine and I regreased them a fortnight ago just to be safe when I rebuilt the front struts. So you might be onto something there.
Re: Cursa B - Was supposed to be a mini project but here we
I cannot think of many "short term" projects of my own that didn't seem to take for ever to sort.
Just like my Cav - You've be telling me for years to get it welded, fit cruise control and other jobs... none of which I have even started.

So, sorted the knocking out.
2x Lower ball joints (not even 12 months old!) replaced
2x Track rod ends (again, not even 12 months old! replaced, though only one was shot.
Never using VECO crap again!.

Yeah, getting my finger out, and building up the spare head and sorting out the wiring for the conversionRobsey wrote:Good man - all sorted now.

Re: Cursa B - Was supposed to be a mini project but here we
There should be very little wiring to do -
Two or three wires.
I would have thought that the biggest hassle would be with regard to connectors..
Vauxhall / Opel do like to faff about using different connectors - sometimes on the same model, but different model year.

Connectors are a straight fit, only real issues are the ecu switched live and permanent live really. Swap a couple of pins over in the plug and should be fairly good to go (all being well).Robsey wrote:There should be very little wiring to do -

Re: Cursa B - Was supposed to be a mini project but here we
Sooo, the corsa is starting to overheat, I have a nasty oil leak and most of the bits to fix it.
I was hoping to hold off a bit longer and get the MPi conversion done once I'd rounded up most of the bits - but it's looking like it's going to have to stay stock and just get repaired as I don't really think it's going to hold up much longer as it is..
Cash is a bit of an issue currently too.

Re: Cursa B - Was supposed to be a mini project but here we
So, this weekend has seen the Corsa get a top end rebuild - or pretty much anyhow.
Head gasket has been going / gone for a while - and it was annoying to say the least, not to mention starting to get dangerous due to the coming and going of power (and I use the term loosely).
Anyhow, enough was enough and off came the head.
Valves were coked / carboned up, piston crowns were crudded up.
Decoked the lot, lapped the valves back in, new stem seals.
Cleaned up the faces, and put it back together, must have been on it 12-13 hours from start to finish.
Runs like a dream now!
I was going to do the c14se head, but didn't have a fuel pump and I need the car to be reliable at the minute - so its still a x14sz. (For now).

Good old-fashioned engine work.
Excellent.
It will be a lot easier when you come to fit the MPi head, as you know where it all goes and how it all comes apart.
A good confidence boost to get the car running well again.

Yeah, feel a bit easier about the whole thing now. But hell am I tired today and I don't really know why.Robsey wrote:Good old-fashioned engine work.

Running much better now, and has improved since putting a few miles on it - is that normal?
Re: Cursa B - Was supposed to be a mini project but here we
Yes - it is quite normal as things settle back down.
And if you had the battery off, then the ECU will have re-learnt how you drive and configure it's settings accordingly.
It normally takes 15 minutes or miles to complete the re-learn phase.
Many people give the car a good lively (thrash) drive immediately after refitting the battery.
Regarding being tired -
People can get quite stressed out with major engine work - especially if a lot is riding on the work being right and to a deadline.
I always felt more stressed about working on my own cars.
Totally chilled on other peoples cars.
The drop-down after all the excitement / worry is over, can leave you totally mentally and physically wiped out.
That and 13 hours of manual work can be quite exhausting (excuse the pun) if you are not used to it.
(Apologies if it sounds like I got my rehabilitation bio-mechanics head on there).

That makes sense, seems more economical now too, will have to monitor over it the next few weeks.Robsey wrote:Yes - it is quite normal as things settle back down.

But yeah, 13 hours will leave most tired I think.
