DK Photography - Southern 14th meeting photos
The 14th meeting in the Southern area took place last Sunday (23rd April) at the usual meeting point on Portsdown Hill. The sun was out and so were the Cavs - the best attendance we’ve had yet - seven!
The warm weather of April was clearly prime for many older vehicles to get out and about as we were briefly joined by a classic car club gathering opposite us which comprised of a few proper minis, a few Morris Minors, a maxi and Pug 205. Other notables was an immaculate series 1 Ford RS turbo, Nissan Silvia S12, a Ford ’32 triple carbs roadster and a scattering of passing machinery taking the opportunity for a Sunday cruise.
Those in attendance were:
Alan (Mk3alan)
James (James McGrath)
Mike (cabletwitch)
Mike (Mikebmth)
Tony (Tonyo) who brought Pete (DiplomaXE) with him.
Mike (Mike McGrath)
Dave (Lowrider Dave)
John turned up in his Pug for a short while as his Cav is off the road.
Dan (Migweb) also popped by in his Astra GTE for a chat.
The line up at portsdown Hill.
Alan’s immaculate CD
Tony’s DIppy
Lord McGrath’s LS
Mike’s latest - CD
Mike’s (mikebmth) long standing machine
Mike McGarth arrived in a pre-faclift gold CD
We then we went in convoy to Hayling Island a few minutes away - but it seems we lost a few on the way!
(Won’t someone think of the crumpets!)
Eventually the McGrath’s joined us
Other machinery on the day:
Dan’s

Good meet, fine weather and I now have some faces to put to the names!
Good selection of photos Dave, how did you manage to take them all and do all that talking?!
Yes, I got lost as your machine slithered off into the distance but I still had a nice ride out, total round trip of 226 miles and no queues - not even at Dartford Tunnel.
Must keep a lookout for the next one!

The camera has a cutout on the lower section so we can still hear him yapping away when it's right up to his face...Mk3alan wrote:Good selection of photos Dave, how did you manage to take them all and do all that talking?
Never use another Cav driver as guidance to a destination, unless you REALLY want to explore the country.
"Won't SOMEBODY please think of the scones?"
1.7TD Ethos (Slightly broken)
1.8i (Given up, going for parts)
2.0i (WHY won't it work?!)

Nice photos Dave.
It was good to see everyone again, turned out to be a nice day for it.
Here's a few snaps I took on the day:
Setting off early in the morning, the weather looking decisively gloomy:
Basking in the sun at Portsdown Hill:
Dave posing for the latest advert for Mick's Monster Burgers:
John in his 'Pug':
Immaculate looking MK1 sports hatch:
Portsdown Hill remains a popular meeting point for car enthusiasts of all tastes:
Alan's pristine engine bay...
...complete with this curious contraption:
Nissan Silvia S12:
On the way to Hayling Island, Alan, my father and I immediately became separated from the rest of the pack, missed a turning and got lost. D'oh!
Missing the turning on the dual carriageway meant that we would have to travel another 6 miles before we could even turn around.
With this in mind, Alan decided to call it a day.
So we parted ways and with fresh directions from Dave, made our way to the island:
All in all, a great day out.
Thanks again to Dave for arranging it.

A great meet and a big thanks to everyone who made the effort to drive the distances required! Many really put in the miles to meet up, so it is appreciated. For those that couldn't make it, perhaps next time! Maybe a change of location, maybe not. Looking at July/Aug for next meeting - keep an eye out for a new thread.
Re: DK Photography - Southern 14th meeting photos
James, I feel the need to explain!
The 'curious device' is a battery maintenance charger which is plugged into a double socket so that I can plug a lead light in.
However! It gets so many comments, not many good ones, that it has to go (somewhere else) as it is not in a good place.
Should be sorted for the next meet!

Sorry we missed it.
It looks you had a good day for it.
Our old blue 1.6L is still going well (enough). MOT coming up soon.
I changed employer at the beginning of April and now my life is a bit of a roller coaster, roll on July when things should settle down a bit.
Hopefully we'll make it to the next one.
