Hard to build a cav from scratch?
I am on the verge of buying my 6th cavalier saloon
But this is a bare shell
Never thought id attempt to build one from scratch
But this way i can sed the area's that rust an rot
Im confident round cavs. But as far as building one from scratch, many here done it?
Any advice would be useful
Reason im opting for this is
1: i can see every part/panel of the car so rot an rust can be easily spotted and sorted
2: i finally want to paint this cavalier yellow
As its a naked shell now is its prime time to do it, no stripping as its done
My only fear is, parts should be easily got on here, facebook etc......
But its knowing what goes were and when doesnt go there before fitting other bits
Bits like
Cdx car looms, clips an brackets formin roind the bay etc....
Any advice?

Re: Hard to build a cav from scratch?
It's a good idea that you have, because you can see every part of the shell, you can repair any issues easily and you can confidently apply rust-proofing products and underseal knowing that every bit is covered and protected for the future.
I think it's definitely something worth doing, if you aren't sure about electrics, you can always find someone to help you with that side of things, mobile electricians, etc, and you'll find all the help and advice on this forum, the biggest challenge will be finding good parts to go onto the project. Do you have another car as a donor to work from?

Re: Hard to build a cav from scratch?
I have an old td saloon sitting there stripped but all wiring, dash is there
I want to paint the car yellow, with a 1.7td and a front mount intercooler and sri kit
Im gonna strip an build the engine up to last. Its for keeps an dont wanna build the car an run it for a few months then the engine or clutch/flywheel goes
I have an r34 4 door skyline here, so thats my petrol car, this will be my daily run about

Yellow ... mmm, why?
Why not another colour / modern shade?

I love R34s, though I've not seen a 4 door version, that must be super rare.

chek the insurance situation first as a reshell could throw up all sorts of legalities. is the shell new old stock or another car?

Why have a modern classic and try to make it blend in.Mazza wrote:

Focus RS for example nowadays.
If Vauxhall in the 90's were bold enough they could have made models above sri's available in yellow ( best colour ever is red for an sri, despite the constant polishing ).
Due to the economic climate in the 90's yellow was for supercars, Lamborghini's etc.
I'd love to have the confidence to drive a yellow cav, I might not get those mysterious car park dings !
