Cavalier restoration
Re: Cavalier restoration
It's the front ones with the headlights.... I see most are sold separately and not as a combined unit.
Re: Cavalier restoration
It's two components joined together... anyway I need to buy each set, left and right head light.
I managed to source brand new old stock turbo rear clusters and perhaps a 2nd set..

Quick update...
Received the Omega electric sunroof complete with spare light switch thrown in... thank you Robsey!
I found a Vectra a turbo being stripped on my travels ... I thought it was on sale! To my surprise it was being broken. Managed to get a good selection of trims, fittings and set of heater cables. Engine and interior (seats) already gone. Sadly, not much left now, only the shell.
In addition, I grabbed a complete set of cavalier turbo door cards with light lens
Upgraded led sunroof visors / led roof handles and inner roof alarm trims
Small selection of electric switches ..
Also picked my spare turbo alloys x2 (north east). I have a full set in the south yet to collect - been in a shed for the past x years which I bought for my gsi 4x4...
Also,... found my old logbook for my gsi 4x4!

My pleasure fella.
Lots of goodies.
Looks like you will be very busy in the coming months.

Re: Cavalier restoration
As some of you maybe aware, the turbo is now stripped bare to the shell.

Quick update
Shell stripped bare 100% ... damn it’s shed a few pounds
Mechanical gear going to be dismantled next week to add some lost horses.
Found some new contacts and possibly some more new turbo parts ...
Also seen some new disc shields ... but the price ... woah!!!

Re: Cavalier restoration
Ensure you get the correct shields.
There are two sizes on the fronts.
Small disc shields for 1.4 and 1.6 models.
Larger disc shields for 1.8 and bigger.
I didn't think klokkerholm shields were particularly expensive.
And I wouldn't expect GM originals to still be available.

The ones I’ve seen are original gm for the cavalier turbo... but dead expensive!

Re: Cavalier restoration
Thanks mate. Yep seen them, quality not the best and my Preference is the originals...
However, I got one side, ... going to check if the fabricator can produce the other side and perhaps some spares. Or if they have any other bright ideas.

Re: Cavalier restoration
I’ve sourced and original bottom half engine cover,.... problem it’s far far, really far away. Not bought it yet.....
I’ve also seen another, but reproduction - unsure of quality of build and if it will fit correctly....
The original is strong and does its job.

Re: Cavalier restoration
Folks - does anyone know if the gear knob changed between the pre and face lift models on the cavalier turbo?
The calibra turbo had round knob... leather and wood effect. I think gear stick was also a little shorter in height ...?
Although these were 6 speeds, the top gear badge were different.
In the past I’ve seen the calibra gear knob in the cavalier - looked nice.
Anyone...?
I need replacement, so looking at all the options... does any one else need one - in Case I find a few?

Re: Cavalier restoration
In Cavalier Turbo the knob never changed.
If you want the round knob, you can use a lever from a Corsa B i.e.. The same lever with another badge.

Re: Cavalier restoration
Thank mate - good to know
I might be able to get the gear stick, knob and leather cover for calibra/cavalier turbo as one unit.... but still shopping around.

Re: Cavalier restoration
Just until model year 1995. Then Calibra got the new gear knob which is also used in Vectra B, Astra and Corsa. But don't ask me why it was not changed in Cavalier.
Re: Cavalier restoration
I fitted a complete Astra-G gearstick and new knob 18 months ago.
It is a 2 minute job.
The Astra stick is a little shorter and has the round leather knob on it.
It means that my knuckles don't come as close to the dash as it used to.
And the gear changes don't need as big a throw of the stick.

Re: Cavalier restoration
I managed to source a brand new original 6 speed emblem, knob and part used stick / cover.. trying to stay stay stock to the C20let look.
Additionally found a round calibra knob. So will have some spares to go...
Car shell has gone for a dip...
Mechanical works started with separating and opening the engine....
