Alloy wheel paint code
Alloy wheel paint code
Hello all
I'm planning on respraying my centre caps as they've started to peel. Want them to look their best ready for Retrorides in a couple of weeks. Any idea what the paint code is for standard Cavalier alloys? I've got fan blades on my V6, same as facelift SRi but 5 stud. Cheers

Re: Alloy wheel paint code
I have looked around a few Vx forums regarding this issue.
The issue appears to be if you apply clear lacquer afterwards, as this can add a slightly darker hue to the silver.
In order of preference:-
Star Silver... (No lacquer).
Astro Silver if adding lacquer coats.
Rover Silver Leaf also goes well if lacquered.
Several posts / forums recommend the Hycote brand of paint and lacquer for the nearest colour match and final finish.

Re: Alloy wheel paint code
Amazing, thanks. Do you know which star silver it is? I think there's 3?
When I sprayed my front lower panel I noticed my new grey paint looked darker after I lacquered it. Assumed it was just that the original grey had faded so the new paint looked dark

88L, star silver 1 met (91-97) will be the original, the other two are later.

Re: Alloy wheel paint code
Yep - according to my list of POC codes.
Only Star Silver - L88 / 138 was available at the time of the Cavalier.
I have seen 138 mentioned many times in other forums' threads.

Re: Alloy wheel paint code
I had a go with star silver 1 and after a few coats it definitely looks darker than my originals and has a lot more metalic in it. Could be my wheel have just faded a lot? Forgive me if this is a stupid suggestion but I wonder if it's worth doing another centre cap with a white primer instead of grey and seeing if the silver finishes lighter??

Re: Alloy wheel paint code
It shouldn't make any difference, unles you are only doing thin mist coats over the white.
