engine management light

Post by nealg »

Morning all, the engine management light comes on intermittently on my 2.0l ecotech, runs a bit rough when its on but still drives. Others times it doesnt come on at all. My stepdad had the car before me and had the throttle body cleaned a couple of times in the past and he thinks that may be the problem, any idea`s please???

I would guess at Cam sensor. This was exactly the same problem on mine. Turned out the wires going from the plug to the sensor were knackered and it was cutting out the signal hence dropping into limp mode.Sometimes would start and run fine, other times would start cr4p and run cr4p.

Yep, fault code say`s cam sensor, incorrect signal, so i guess i need to check the wiring to the sensor first. Where do i find the cam sensor??!! thanks, Neal.

If you pop the bonnet and look at the rocker cover you will see a wire going into the left hand side of it just to the right of the Cam cover.. Its in line with the black ecotec spark plug cover. To change it you have to take the Cam cover off, which involes taking the air filter box off. Sounds a bit of a mare but easy enough.

Cheers
Neal

P.S. Do you find it annoying when everyone spells your name wrong and has a go at you when point it out. I do :wall

I don't know if this counts as thread hijacking, if it is then I apologise.

Attached is a picture of my camshaft sensor (hopefully this will aid you in finding yours nealg). I also have the camshaft sensor warning on at the moment, but when I got the car the camshaft sensor wire had been butchered (see at the yellow tape in the picture). A friend of mine had a go at tyding it up but clearly there is still a problem. Does anyone have a wiring diagram for the sensor connections saying what the wires are and where they are supposed to go?

The reason some Cavs have that wire butchered is that there were two different plugs on the same sensor, so people just cut off the old one and badly wired in the new. You will find that the wires will just need to be connected propery colour for colour. Its what I did.

Yep Neal spelt Neal is a pain in the arris. I am exactly the same. So annoying when people tell me its spelt wrong.

To keep this thread on engine management light: I have fault code 13 which is not on the topbuzz list. Anyone know what this is :scratch

:D I found a good article on everything2 about fault codes. After getting my friend to look at it, he said that it was worth replacing the radiator cap before going for the head gasket. I replaced it, and dissed the battery for 1 hour to reset the codes, and so far, it has not lost any more water.

I've been postin this all over about cam sensors and thought you might like to know as well - get a decent one not a cheap (£12 ish) after-market job. I had to change mine twice because the cheap brand new one just wasn't up to the job!! I recommend vaux-world website for a cheap genuine Siemens one.

Still playing up, changed the camshaft sensor, read the fault codes again. Now showing no.52 check light (fault code lamp) voltage high. no.73 mass airflow temp, volyage low. no. 92 camshaft sensor incorrect signal. Anyone have any ideas??? thanks.
