Should be picking this up in the next couple of days - 1993 L reg 1.8 Auto (LS, well how long it stays and LS is anyones guess :rolleyes:)

Buying soley to get me about while I find some workshop space and get Smokey in to see how bad the shell is (read: full strip down and rebuild)

Foggy (as I have now started to call it) comes with 10 (well, 9) months MOT and 6 months tax needs a few patches here and there and the odd bit of work but should be a nice little runner for the foreseeable future.

Looks a tidy Cav there Gary. Should hopefully get you through while you're getting the work done on the other one.

With it being a auto will you be coming up to junctions and hitting the brake thinking you are pressing the clutch? As thats what I do when I have a shot of an auto. . Looks a tidy car tho :cool

Took it straight on the motorway to get used to it. Starting to get the hang of it now, almost wrote it off though as I selected park instead of neutral to stop at the junction - welll this locks the box up doesnt it... Good thing the chap behind was a mate of mine and was expecting something like this to happen.

What he says, leave it in 'drive' and keep your foot on the brake till ready to move off. I dont drive a lot of autos, but when I do I tuck my left foot behind my right one. So that I dont use my left foot.

autos tend to freak me out but being in and out of cars all day you soon get used to them, the creaking on the brakes always freaks me out.

Give it a month and your left calf will shink to the same size as your right!! :D

Give it two months and you'll be thinking about keeping it and ditching the grey one.

Not sure about that, still prefer a manual. I might look at getting a cleaner shell for the grey one though :geek:

Nice car you have there. Have any plans for it, or just keeping it as run around? :)

Haven't decided how much I like it yet to be honest Claire, it would seem a shame to rip the engine and box out for my 18Se and F16 combo as its such a nice runner.

List of things to do so far though is:

Weld up the bottom door hinge on the passenger front door
Replace the seats with something a little better
Colour coded electric mirrors (and required wiring)
See if theres fuel computer wiring and get a chip re-programed for it
Replace the shockers (maybe drop it 30mm if I can find the springs cheap enough)
Clean up the paint work, sort the arches before they rot out
Drop and replace the fuel tank as it weeps ever so slightly (donated by my 2litre scrapper)
Sort out the rattley cam

It is a really nice looking car. Lovely colour. Theres a few things there to keep you busy for a while.
You never know, working on it,will either make you want to keep or sell it.

Good luck with it. Look forward to seeing future pictures.
I can't think of a better than cleaning the car at 5am, especially when working and bored. :) :)

If I could guarentee that all the bolts and nuts would come loose without some form of hitting it till it does, then yeah, I'd do it at work and get paid for replacing them :p

Great looking car there and I am

I have driven auto's for well over a decade now and the best way to drive one is to plant your left foot just left of the space where the clutch pedal should be and then just forget you have a left leg!! Let it relax!! At juctions and traffic lights, as has been said, keep her in drive with your right foot on the brake and then ease off onto throttle when lights change!! Beware though, they say you cannot stall an auto but in reality it has been known to happen  I loved it when mine wheel span on acceleration sometimes!!! Loved the looks I got from some 'kids' in their saxo's etc!!!

I find auto's are better at starting at traffic lights as there is no loss of speed when the gears change!

Enjoy, Enjoy, Enjoy is all I can say!!
