So what am I looking for ?

Post by jacko-lah »

Okay, so assuming that I insure my Son on my wife's 1.8 Cav when he's 17 in June (Best Quote £811 Full Protected Comprehsive),
The alternative is insure him on a 1.0 corsa which replaces my astra for about £650.

So, I could dump the old astra at about the same time, and get a mk2 or mk3 cavalier. I've had 4 mk2 cavaliers and I love them, but I ain't prepared to pay the 'inflated' prices for a decent SRi or CDi.
Mk3 Cav's seem to be going the same way price wise, but lets say I had £1000, I could still get a decent V6 or XE Sri. ? Right ? Not going to get a decent GSi for that, but I wouldn't say no to an Ecotec at the right condition. I'd prefer a saloon as then I could fit a Gsi body kit.
Or I could go newer.
V6 Omegas are dirt cheap, as are V6 Vectras, and that would suit the wife who thinks age is important. An omega would suit my middle aged, middle class, management consultancy image I'm attempting to erm SPIN : see my professional profile : http://uk.linkedin.com/in/logicalimprovementprojects
But a V6 cav gsi replica would suit my real personallity (18 going on 43)

What do we think as a collective ? I ask on a mk3 cav forum because I expect the answers to be totally biased.

not being biased your too old for a cav  but hey! so am i :wave and being a skilled worker of resonable talent the cav suits me so in your case a middle aged, middle class, with a management consultancy image could go for an audi :wall did i say that ... i ment a cav

and tell your lad to insure himself it will only end up in tears

I'm sorry, but the Wife has owned the Cav for 10 years so it's not as if we are planning to commit some sort of insurance fraud. the fact that we want to add him to a car so he can learn to drive and then occassionally get to drive me to the pub once he's passed, does not mean it's his car. because it never will be.

I know you didn't but it boils my piss when people do abuse the system, so I wanted to make it very clear.

Protected No claims bonus, so we'll remove him from the policy if he does.

Thing is ,is that if he is insured under someone elses policy, he WONT acrue any no claims bonus of his own :no , but that is how it i ;) Sio even if he was 23, he would be classed as a 'new ' driver and would have to cough up. Reckon it's better to bite the bullet now whilst he has chance.

ps, Just let him know that I was walloped up the back end my one (and only )time I went to Santa Pod for the Vaux show, whilst in my Cavvy Turbo. Turns out the guy had only passed his test TWO MONTHS previously, only paid ONE MONTH of his insurance policy............and I was HIS SECOND COLLISION !!!!!!!!!! :(
Just that thev 'youth of today' need reigning in a bit so things like this don't happen and they can still get insured. ;)
(not saying your son might be like that by the way )

Actually, when I think back to 1984, I think the term "Legailised Joy Riding" would best describe the motoring experience of me and my well to do mates.

At 17, having only just passed my test, I used to sit in with a learner in his dad's 2.0 Ghia Capri, and we'd head to the lake district for a pint, (some 140 miles around trip up the A6) . And I span my dad's sierra on the Southport Coast Road. Maybe kids under 30 should not be allowed to drive.

there's some tidy Cav's popping up at the minute. I'd look at that avenue.

I'm wondering if I could get a Cav Turbo past my long suffering wife ? Or how I might, without resorting to any downright lies.

I'm not 'that' keen on the Modifications, however subtle. But I like the condition and could force myself at the right price :) .
