hi

Post by droofer »

hi, i have just joined this forum, but i have only joined for one reason, that is i do have a cavalier gls 2.0 automatic, i took it in px against something to help the guy out,i had the idea of putting it on here, but have discovered that you need 50 posts to put anything in the classifieds, being a classic car enthusiast, i wanted to offer it to anyone on here first , only due to the fact i think its far too good to send to the crusher.
i hope you appreciate my honesty, and if you would allow me to post it/or want information, or even if you want to just delete my post, thats fine. :wave
thanks ed.

welcome ed and thanks for respecting the 50 post rule, there are plenty who try to get around it. but as im sure youve already discovered, 50 posts doesnt take long once you start chatting hehehe!

welcome to cavmk3oc and enjoy your stay. stick your location in your profile, might be worthwhile if anyone near you wants to get in touch 8-)

Hi Ed,
Welcome to the site, as said above, it doesn't really take long to get to 50 posts. :wave

Regarding the comment above, I hope that is the main reason that MOST people come on the forum...
to seek, or to offer useful and constructive help, info and advice.

You're more than welcome to browse round our little site. You never know, we might convince you to have a dabble with your Cav there.

They really are good old fashioned reliability - cheap to fix, maintain and run - what more could you want? ;)

unfortunately, the resistance to dabble has caved in. had a little play with it at dinner time, sorted a bit of dodgy wiring, nipped up rocker gasket, cleaned up a few bits etc,. not sure what engine is in it, but it goes well, ive driven novas with the 2.0 8v in it also,if it was an ecotec id be having serious second thoughts about letting it go to a new owner. :)

if it was an ecotec I'd be more inclined to let it go, the 8v is a better engine.

Really?, i just thought that with the sohc being around for so long, that the ecotec was an improvement,i have driven other model vauxhalls both 8v and ecotec, and i thought the ecotec was more responsive, ie, corsa 1.4s and astra 1.6., but i suppose that theres more tuning capability with the 8v? or is it just better full stop?

Well the ecotecs are basically revised engines in the facelift models, which are slightly restricted on power compared to their predecessors, in order to comply with emission standards etc. That's basically the simplest way of putting it. The good old 8 valvers are much easier to service and maintain though, plenty more space to get to bits. Plugs for instance.

the ecotec 16v also has more rollers to break on the cambelt run

8V is simpler to maintain and also the 8 valve engines have better poke at low revs...
16 Valvers tend to respond better to a more enthusiastic, higher revving driving style

I have heard a few web-sites refer to Eco-Tec's as Eco-Wrecks, but I have no personal experience of the 2 litre engines

So, if we have got you dabbling, does that mean you might not be quite so eager to get shut of your little jalopy ?
