Yep, the small petrol pump icon should light up amber when the needle reaches the top of the red line. :thumb

As Andrei suggests, they can do this if the feed and return are reversed, worth a look. Also if the pump is in tank it can happen when it is floating and not clipped home properly.

If I'm not mistaken most do but some clocks don't.

My bro's 16v SRi XEV when it had black clocks did, he changed them to Cally White with red needle 140mph clocks and they don't. Either that or the bulb has blown (correct me if I'm wrong).

The way i see it is that its part of the character of the car lol

If the needle is at the quarter line its time to fill up :thumb

Not to sure why there is a petrol light in any car the needle says it all :)

The standard facelift and pre-facelift higher spec models with rev gauge clocks have an illuminated amber petrol warning light.
The pre-facelift bottom spec models, I.E. my '89 L have no rev gauge and the fuel gauge has the petrol pump icon but that is always illuminated when the sidelights are on.
Hope that's clear enough :thumb

Don't forget, the needle only tells a part of the story. Perfect example with my auto, I tested it once and got 50 miles urban on the warning light without running out, at least 10 miles with the needle on the stop. Then several months later, I was driving it to the local gas station, the needle wasn't on the stop, yet she clogged to a halt twice. Ran out. Fuel gauges are NOT 100% accurate.

But these clocks currently are white face, red needle 140mph with rev counter standard Vaux clocks. I can only assume the bulb has blown.

Are the bulbs replaceable?

Yep, the bulbs can be replaced, it does mean taking the clocks out however. That has been covered in several topics here, so browse around :thumb

Well it should as far as I'm aware :scratch I've watched youtube clips of turbos being raced about and I can swear I've seen a few with the petrol warning lights illuminated.

mine has one, and i got so sick of seeing the red petrol pump on the dash i change it to a blue bulb... it blends in with the rest of the dash now,

changing the bulbs in the clocks/or any part of the dash is simple, few screws and they come out

I'll check when they next come out as a few illumination bulbs needs replacing too. Thanks I'll search around.

My bro's dials are like the turbo dials but 140mph. Either they don't have one or coincidently yours and ours have blown

Just to be totally stupid...

I have an Astra GTE Digi Dash... mine has a yellow square that flashes when I have a range below 15 miles 1/8th tank of fuel.

This is usually about 10 miles after my fuel computer has dropped to zero. :scratch

I cannot be arsed to reprogram the computer using the "Short diag-plug pin D to earth" method.

But mine has a range of 90 miles at half a tank according to my digi gauge.
(Gauge is callibrated to Astra GTE tank and sender, not a Cav Mk3 Tank and sender)
