Re: How do I edit my thread titles ?
Thought I'd add to this thread instead of making another one as it's relatively similar..
My question is, on another forum that I'm on, RC Rock Crawling forum, as a registered user I am able to delete my threads as and when I like.
Could the same option be implemented here, so that it allows members to "clean up" their own threads if they choose to. It would help increase the usability of the forum and kind of help the moderators at the same time.

I'm not sure I like the idea of being able to delete old threads.
It can be quite useful to look through the older posts and find answers that way.
I would however, like a much longer period of time in which you can edit your own posts.
Often I look back at something I've written an realize I could have added more information or written it better but find it's too late to do so.

Understand, but I mean when you look back through your old threads, and nothing important has been said in reply, or it has had 0 replies, you may as well delete it to "clean up".

Re: How do I edit my thread titles ?
I wouldn't want old threads to be deleted for the very reason that James suggests. When people can be bothered to use the forum's search facility(!), the results are very useful.
At present, I think there is a ten minute window in which you can edit old posts. Perhaps half hour would be a better idea?

Re: How do I edit my thread titles ?
The only issue with the search facility is the amount of results that are vaguely similar to the search entry... I.E. type in C20XE or something similar, and thousands of results come up.
The edit window used to be 15 minutes, unless that's changed?

Re: How do I edit my thread titles ?
Tbh, that's down to user error; you need to refine your search term in order to return relevant results. You can't type in 'C20XE' and expect the search function (or any search engine for that matter) to do anything other than produce a list of results that only look for that term. If you typed 'C20XE fuel pump' (for want of a better example), the search results would be more in keeping with what it is that you're looking for.

It's a bit like typing 'custard cream biscuit' instead of just biscuit, which would give all sorts of results

Re: How do I edit my thread titles ?
I understand, but it still comes up with hundreds of threads and posts, with your search query highlighted. I hardly ever find what I'm looking for there, even if I am specific with what I put in.

Re: How do I edit my thread titles ?
That is it working. Your search term is not refined enough if you cannot find what you are looking for. Can you provide an example search term that you've entered (along with an explanation regarding what you hope to find)?Cavalier342 wrote:I understand, but it still comes up with hundreds of threads and posts, with your search query highlighted. Never mind guys, I can't remember exactly what I searched for before, but don't worry about it.
