What's the effect of ticking the box "Log me on automatically each visit"? The answer must be very hi-tec because I have been trying with and without ticking for yonks with no apparent difference.

Re: Login procedures
By ticking the box, the cookie in your browser keeps your status as 'logged in' (meaning that you don't need to enter your username and password each time you visit the forum). If you ticked the box and are still having to log in each time you visit then you might need to check your local browser settings.
Re: Login procedures
If it does not log you in automatically when you have ticked the box,
It is likely that you browser is not 'allowing cookies'.
You would need to look at your browser settings and set to 'allow cookies'

Re: Login procedures
I regularly and religiously zap all cookies when signing off but the browser settings "allow local data to be set (recommended)".

Re: Login procedures
If your browser deletes cookies when you shut it down (or if you delete them manually), then you will be deleting your logged in status and will need to enter your details each time you visit the forum.

Re: Login procedures
The lesser of two evils I reckon. Tks for the explanation.
