Panel filters

Post by HAIRIBO »

I'm going to bin my K&N induction kit in favour of a panel filter. Reasons being

1> A TV mag roolong road opertar commented on a cone filter on one of the vectras and said its restrictive.

2> I rang up courtenay and asked what they did to there cavalier 3.0 v6 conversions, they said used panel filters.

3> rany up V-sport where I'm goingbto get my car remapped, and they told me to use either a pipercross panle filter or BMC carbon box, as they did a run for a magazine, testing loads of filters on a car, and and they bothy gave similar high results.

My question is,,,,,,,, Is the Courtenay filter the same as a pipercross filter?

Squig is the bottom of you filter lumpy? Its just the courtenays are a bit cheaper.

I've read several reports/articles that all say the best flowing filters are the standard paper jobbies.

Can't beat the sound of an induction kit roaring at full tilt though ;) 8-)

I do like the noise, but both courtaney and V-sport have told me to use a sealed airfilter. They have been rolling roading cars for years.

Ok at full pelt down the motor way you'll proply see no difference. but at lights and slow moving in the summer, you'll suck in all the hot air. My plan is to one day make panel that seals a cone filter completely from the rest of the engine bay, but for now an air boxwill have to do, with panel filter, as I not paying £180 for a BMC carbon filter kit. not when V-sport said it oonly made a little gain over th £35 pipercross panel

Angryman makes kits to do just that - PM him and ask for a price. You might have to do some measuring though.

I do a a kit that will fit a Cone filter into an 8v airbox, which takes away the heat problem and keeps the performance of the cone

One Courtenay/Pipercross panel filter on its way to my house as we speak. For £30 I cant complain. maybe one day I'll mess on making a proper sealed off section in the engine bay, but I wanted a quick fix. And I've been told off a few performance specialists not to use a K&N filter on my v6 anyway. Plus Mine is ment for the ectotec engine.

If I do make a sealed section I'll use either Ramair (Hard to find) or custom fit Greencotton dual filter. I dont want to use a Vectra cone as they have a smaller diameter oulet compared to the c25xe for some reason.

Just need to find the best place to fit my cold air feed. I really want a scoop in the front bumper, but dont want to cut the bumper and make a mess of it.I've got a nice long 100mm dia flex pipe for the job. might just put in side the front bumper, and try directing air to that area for now. then cut a scoop in the lower bumper.

I had a Courtenay panel filter on my V6 and it worked well. Along with Courtenay cams, 4 bar FPR and remap, it made 194bhp and 190 lb/ft. Not bad for a 2.5!

Another thing I did was take out the tube from the lid of the airbox, and ditched the resonance box under the inner wing. Then ran a piece of air feed hose from under the bumber straight up into the airbox.
