late Cavalier 3 vs early Vectra

Post by ZZ Top »

Only had my X20XEV Cav3 for two months or so and done 2,000m in it so far.

Compared to what I'm used to (1964 boxy Land Rover), this Cav is comfortable, warm, quiet, doesn't leak, rattle or jar my spine. Doesn't drink much either, especially on the motorway and I can do 85 no problem - great for travelling incognito and unnoticed!!!

But, never having driven a Vectra, am I missing out on anything? :scratch Who here has had both?

I've driven both... similar models too vectra gsi v6 and cav cdx v6, both 2.5 v6 powered but with the gsi pushing a mite more power and torque, and honestly those who've owned both have commented unfavourably on the vectra, based on the disconnected feeling it has with the road. I agree totally.
Power delivery may be comparable and the handling is similar enough but the cavalier is the more entertaining to drive... and probably more economical due to the weight difference.

having owned a vectra for 4 years, a vectra is more comfortable, but its a vague car to drive compared to a cav, its good for motorway and too heavy town and in the country. You drive a cavalier your just along for the ride in a vectra.

I personally prefer the Vectra to the Cav, I always thought my Cav was bland a to b car.

See now I always thought Gaz's Vectra was like that. And it shows something when a lot of people go BACK to Cavs after driving Vectra's
driven Gaz's Vectra and while its comfortable its just too dull. Its clad in that much sound deadening its like a dynamat roll on wheels. Its a good car in its own right, but personally i dont see what all the fuss is about, or why there are more Vectra clubs than Cavalier for that matter. :scratch

Give me a Cavalier any day, so much more fun

had a vectra but it didnt float my boat ... it was smooth newer easier to drive but it was dull ,uninspiring non descript ,silver???? (not my fave colour) power was not as good as the same size cav , actualy every vectra of the same engine size as a cav is slower .misus wanted to keep it coz it was newer ..... NO CHANCE .. straight on ebay :wave

the only thing with a cav is it drives "old" if you get what i mean .
now running a swedish vauxhall...

i agree with most, the vectra is newer but not a drivers car, if i had the time ,money & space i,d like to swap a vectra front end onto a cav, iv seen 206 front ends on 205,s & skyline on primera,s so y not a vectra onto a cav ?

I had an M reg Ecocav a few years ago and decided to upgrade  to a P reg 2 litre ecotec Vectra. What a mistake!
I hated every second of the 2 months I owned it. This is a record for shortest ownership by myself as I usually keep cars for ages,I've had present V6 cav for 5 years.
My main problem with it was how gutless the thing was compared to the cav. The cav would hit 4000rpm and pull quite well, the Vectra was just flat all through the rev range. I checked it all out and was happy there was nothing wrong with it and put it down to being heavier and tuned differently to the cav.
So I sold the thing and bought a V6 cav which I loved until the wiring shorted out, so then bought current V6 :D

Hmmm....I have no aspirations to a Vectra.
Cav 3 is the best value for money, methinks.

Is it still here???? am i NOT allowed to fancy a change now and then?? I dont even know why your on this board Terry all you do is slag Cavaliers off, go find something else to do

Right im getting sick to death of the attitude from certain members on this forum lately. Pack it in or you will be removed from the database. And that doesnt mean you can go snivelling to Gaz moaning about being removed, once your gone your gone

end of discussion
