Project Red Baron - Gaz' Cav
Re: Gaz' Cav.
as i cant stand in the garage for any length of time (my sockets are cold to the touch) i decided to fit the gear stick selector bar, that ive had in the garage for a while.
its a pretty easy job centre console out, disconnect it from the engine bay, remove the 4 floor retaining bolts and remove the unit, the bar just pulls out with a bit of force and the new one slots back in. Put it all back together with the correct vauxhall grease (yes its very expensive but ive had it for ages) and the gearchange is so much sharper than it was. In nice weather would be less than an hour job to sort.
While i was there i realised that i had the switch for the trip computer and the wiring in the car, so while i had the dash apart i fitted the trip computer, small job but its done now.
For chirstmas i got a richbrook gearknob to replace the ford 6 speed one i took out of my vectra, it suited the vectra but not the cav, also the leather gaitor i had didnt really suit the gearknob so i swapped it out for an alcantara version terry donated me from his cav, its a bit tatty but it looks a lot better than the leather one, so i'll get a new one and fit that.

Re: Gaz' Cav.
The leaking tank was getting on my nerves so i dropped it the other day so i could fit a new tank and while i was at it fit the walbro 255ltr pump to try and solve the engine issues.

Needless to say the old tank wasnt in the best of conditions and its no surprise it leaked.
No pics of the new tank as i had to go out and get some pads to stop it rattling on the body (tank didnt come with them like the oe ones) and forgot.

Yeah, that doesn't look particularly healthy.
Another job to do on mine
first leaky tank I've had in 4 cav's though.

Re: Gaz' Cav.
ouch doesnt look like that petrol tank will have lasted much longer... i was lucky, brand new one fitted to my cav just before i picked it up... hopefully won't need to worry about that ever again...
Re: Gaz' Cav.

Thats it waiting to go on, going to change the lines that sit under the tank as well as the filler neck as mine never fills up right it just clunks every 10 seconds as i think the non return flap thing has broke and is stuck in the neck somewhere so found a mint one from the scrapyard so going to fit that while im under there.
oh and for the record this is what a god knows how old fuel filter looks like and what it looks like inside.

Re: Gaz' Cav.
that filter is definately FUBAR!

Re: Gaz' Cav.
Those things heat up a room rather well I've found

Re: Gaz' Cav.
Actually you may say that the filter is knackered but we don't have a 100 mile one to compare it to so how do we know?
Re: Gaz' Cav.
well ive got a brand new one vauxhall one but im not cutting it open to find out.
It had sand in it and the petrol that came out was kinda manky it was pretty screwed, im almost certain it should be like a paper oil filter inside and be a bit cleaner

have a look at that then argue some more

Re: Gaz' Cav.
Well i finally had a half decent day to get on with my tank
the main solid pipe from the filter to the lines under the floor was shot

Couldn't find one from vauxhall so had to make my own, flaring the ends was fun but it fitted really well using the original as a template

Stone chipped under the tank to keep it rust free forever lol, not sure why vauxhall didnt do it but its done now.

all the stuff ready to go on

Pipe in position waiting for the tank.

tank waiting to be lifted up, its really a 2 man job its really hard to get it into place on your own but i somehow managed it.

new filter and lines all in position,
It started snowing and i was wet and cold so i called it a day.

I done the tank on my car by myself too. So I know how hard it is. Looking good as well.

Re: Gaz' Cav.
looks a clean cavi.what spoiler is it on the back?
Re: Gaz' Cav.
The big stupid one was a vectra saloon one, the smaller one is just the normal cav lip spoiler.
Re: Gaz' Cav.
Well its a long time since i updated this, its never been right since i fitted the xe, so a couple of weeks back myself, turbodan, and vauxtilidie had a crack at getting it right,
Long story short it was a combination of crank sensor, afm, bad plug on the temp sensor and the coil
Once it was running I fitted the vernier pulleys to the pipercams but......
there was a massive oil leak off the cam cover, after 2 vauxhall gaskets later it still leaked so i changed the rocker cover and its not leaked since but it meant having a standard one on oh well

Just to check for leaks while it was warming up diidnt leave it like this

Due to the fine english weather the other night i fitted the 5 stud conversion to the rear

Fitted my vectra wheels
Photos are a bit out of focus as im still working out this new phone but you get the idea
Had these made up the other week, in hindsight im not sure if they will match my interior its a good job thou.

Nice to know it's finally running right for you, not sure on the carbon'd trims though, but heyho, you can only try these things right?

Re: Gaz' Cav.
If you dont want the carbon door bits I'll have them
Or at least get me in touch with him to do the same to mine lol
