Re: immobiliser
no issue at all, just unplug it all and leave the plugs in place, no point in chopping them out.
Re: immobiliser
i hav the redtop engine , loom and ecu in the car now , yesterday i turned the key and it wudnt fire , so i took out a plug connected it back on the lead and tried to see was it sparking and its not? Is ther anythin else i need to change?

Re: immobiliser
I will check it later today . What will it mean if the ecu light stays on?
Is the ecu light the engine management light?

Re: immobiliser
if it doesnt go off its the crank sensor is knackered and it def wont start without it.
ecu/engine light differnt name same thing.

Re: immobiliser
i got a new crank sensor yesterday . When i crank the engine the ecu light goes out .
The car wont start , its still not gettin the spark? Any other reasons why this is happening? Im really gettin sick of this now

Re: immobiliser
At times like this, do the basics.
1) Check the Low tension side.
Voltage to coil and amlifier circuit
Check grounding of coil and amplifier module
Check all other connections from the coil to amplifier
2) Check the High tension side.
Check coil is ok
Check amplifier is okay
Check HT leads are okay
Check rotor and dizzy cap.
Oh and the plugs.
It may be that you had more than one fault, and that you were pre-ocupied with the Engine light to consider that there could be something else that does not trigger the light.
(Such as the ignition side of things).
Another thought, and I don't want you to think I'm having a go, but if you left the old loom in place, have you connected up the correct loom ?
It is easily done, as all the wires will be the same colour codes.

Re: immobiliser
Also assuming you have removed the immobilizer part of the loom, then all should be fine,
However to check it isn't the immobilizer kicking up a fuss, try this.
ALARM FAULT DIAGNOSIS.
Fault codes can be read out of the Alarm by shorting pins A and H
in the diagnostic connector next to the octane plug.
The code is flashed out on the ultrasonic led.
The Ultrasonic button clears the codes.
18 Fault with disarm signal
25 Horn Voltage Low - Horn O/C or fuse blown
26 Indicator Left open circuit
27 Indicator Right open circuit
28 Ultrasonic driver side open circuit or incorrect voltage
29 Ultrasonic passenger side open circuit or incorrect voltage
32 Boot caused an alarm condition
33 Bonnet caused an alarm condition
34 Doors caused an alarm condition
35 Ignition Turned on caused an alarm condition
36 Imbolization circuit open circuit (starter circuit triggered causing alarm)
37 Radio caused an alarm condition
38 Ultrasonic's caused an alarm condition
39 Fault with disarm signal. (central locking fuse blown) (causing alarm condition)
40 Two alarm triggers at the same time.
41 Spare alarm input caused alarm condition (pin 14)
46 Rear Window smashed caused an alarm condition ('92+ models only)
52 Horn Voltage Low - Horn O/C or fuse blown
55 ECU fault

Re: immobiliser
If you have had the alarm fitted along with the immobilizer, then the led will be at the top of the "B" Post as it meets the roof lining.
Top of the front passenger's or driver's door frames.
One side will have the ultrasonic sender and LED, and the other will have the ultrasonic receiver.
I never had an OEM alarm fitted to my car, and so don't know exactly which door pillar it is (near-side or off-side)
Incidentally, if you don't have the alarm fitted, then this will be of no use to you.

Re: immobiliser
Here you go...alarm / immobilizer info for the Calibra and Cav, care of Mr Haynes
53.2 Anti-theft alarm system component locations
(Calibra model shown - component locations identical on Cavalier)
1 Control unit
2 Ultrasonic sensor with LED
3 Ultrasonic sensor with probe
4 Radio contact
5 Bonnet contact unit
6 Horn
7 Relay
Hope that helps

Re: immobiliser
Do you not have AA, RAC or Greenflag "Home Start" break-down cover.
Maybe they could come to you and diagnose / fix the problem.

Re: immobiliser
nah dont hav that kinda insurance problem . I'll need to call out an auto electrics man to find the problem , just hope i can afford it

Re: immobiliser
Ill get some picks of the wiring i have just done today to get my lads xe running in his belmont
basically fit the xe loom plug to plug and you really only need a few extra wires to get it going

Re: immobiliser
right her goes ... (xe with dizzy)
you have a red and black wire on the xe loom

which has this plug on the end (ok I cut mine off)

these 2 wires are red a perm live to the battery
and
black, a switched live which I came off the X5 plug (the blue wire in the pic which should be black but i had non)

next the coil
the amplifier unit which plugs into the xe loom has a blue and a red wire flying off it
red along with your black original coil wire on +ve
blue with the green on the other side

now the fuel pump
earth one side somewhere good and run a wire to pin 87b on the relay

providing all other connections have been done .... air flow , icv, knock, cam ,etc this should be enough to get you going you can tidy up your wiring once you know alls well.
hope this helps ,
PS dont forget the heavy earth strap from engine to bodywork or you will smoke some smaller wires , i cant be held responsible for any damage so at your own risk!!!, (its working fine for me though ) ... just dont post back its a dispack xe or i will have to get under the bonnet of my cav for yer

Re: immobiliser
will the 1.6 radiator be ok with the redtop engine ? I tried fitting the redtop rad but it wont fit cos the front of my cav is too high so that rad stucks up too high . must be a new type front .
