mk3 cavaliers a plenty in the first harry potter film!

Post by humbucker »

wandered into the lounge this afternoon to see that the first harry potter film was on tv. it was one of the first scenes where that little oik potter is taken to his aunt and uncles as a baby. anyway, being a sad bastard i noticed that in the street where the aunt and uncle are supposed to live, privet drive or something, every single house had a mk3 cavalier saloon on the drive. being an even sadder bastard i took a pic to share with you. there are three in this shot alone, all base models:

Image

the next scene showed the same street but 'ten years later', when apparently every single household had upgraded their cavalier in favour of a vectra estate:

tune in tomorrow for the next instalment of 'dan really needs to get out more'...

The back end on that pic reminds me of the 850 estates. Just where it slopes down vertically. I like that. The GSi kit and alloys complement it really well. Shame GM never did design it. Would have sold like hotcakes I reckon, looking like that. All the benefits of a Cav with twice the luggage space - who could say no?

Nice one on the harry Potter film... will have to dig that out and look. Not sure why i never noticed that. Maybe Vauxhall were sponsoring the film... like in the last couple of 007 films, every car was a Ford, or a car owned by the Ford Motor Co.

Excellant eagle eyes!

Im always pointing cavaliers out on our travels, usually followed by a tut from the missus, especially on road wars!

Often thought about the cavalier estate and if it could be done, ive heard that people not only put the cav front end on calibra's and vise versa, but they have also changed the rear quarter panels, so maybe if you had the suitable panels off a vectra b, and a cav, it stands a chance, bit of a pain though.

But that was done as a piss take saying that it was a boring middle class street. Where everyone drfives a boring focus.

Cant see the potter's trying to take the piss. Maybe bloke in charge of locations was a Vauxhall fan.

i think you might be right; went to see the NEW potter film today, deathly hallows pt1. terrible film, but that aside, bearing in mind it's supposed to be a few years later, the vectra estates have all been replaced with vectra C saloons! its very clever really, continuity and a subtle suggestion of advancing years through subliminal placement of cars like this. and cavalier > vectra > newer vectra is a good idea as they are/were such a common sight at the point they were in production that it makes sense that there would be a subconscious recognition of the era they're trying to depict.

so i guess we expect insignias in the next instalment out in july hahaha!

Filmed at the same time as part 1 don't they. Just add CGI.

...Still I guess they changed the cars as shown in the very first film, so......

mrs humbucker did make me go and watch it but i forgot to look out for any vauxhalls. i dont think any of the film was set in 'normal' surroundings so i doubt it. it would be like putting a peugeot 306 in mordor.
