Now that IS fun :cool

My first car was a 1980 rwd toyota... How and when I learnt to drive on slippery surfaces.. hand brake turns and sliding manouvres on my local supermarket car-park.

I take it then you didn't put it into the snow-flake mode... that would be a little boring.. unless you were testing the box rather than just having fun.
Tested the difference between flake mode and non flake mode
Tried sports mode too... twas ammusing.

I bet !! :cool

So I take it then that you are in your box of delights (Cavvy) rather than the Astra or the Bus for tomorrow's commute.

Good Call !! :thumb

Most certainly. However having 4x4's overtaking on the wrong side of the road because the Renault Scenic in front was going FAR to slow did not help pacify my mood this morning :wall :wall :wall :wall

i was enjoying watching the numpties trying to drive on non gritted roads, its a lot of fun watching them wheelspin as im defrosting the car and drive off the estate at 15mph. Once i was on the main road it was easy, lest see what tomorrow brings.

Weve had a bit over in West houghton, not much though, just bloody freezing!

About to leave for work and dreading the next 4 nights in, but on the plus side, we can turn jobs down if we deem them to dangerous for ourselves or our vehicles. Lets see how many numpties take there car 0.5 miles to the chippy.

Or less! They make me laugh when they are at home and call in a flat battery when they live in a location that is inaccessible. Why? You can't go anywhere!!

Well, snow finally arrived at 1:00 am this morning (Tuesday).
By 7:00 am there was 4" of snow on my jalopy.

No problem, or so I thought..
Now then, I live up a hill, and once I got about 2 miles from my house, then the snow was virtually non-exhistent.

But despite the lack of snow, all the roads were grid-locked at under 10 mph.
Why are so many british drivers just totally crap and unprepared for anything other than dry weather. ? :pram :scratch

Toss bags I thought, as I still had another 45 miles to go before turning up in sunny Ellesmere Port.

Anyway, looks like I will be having some time off from work tomorrow, as I look at the snow piling up outside. :wall

I don't envy you. We have more to come, reports of a 10 mile wide snow cloud overhanging... might just stop in bed tomorrow I think...

No chance of stopping in bed here...

Wife will have me working on something or other :(

So, may be off work, but probably working twice as hard.

Regarding the snow cloud - the sky is just pure grey / white snow cloud as far as the eye can see... Which from this high vantage point can be upto about 40 miles in any direction.

Saying that though, you guys in the north east and Scotland will have had it (and still having it) twenty times worse than us down here...

So the only envy you should feel, is for the lack of snow we've had so far... compared to your deluge...

I love the snow! Mostly because 3 days rest plus finally got a chance to use the 4x4 in the snow- and I've got to say it is really good, not to mention huge fun! Won't love it when I'm back in my van sliding all over the place tho.

I'd love a 4x4 cav on skiny 175 tryes for winter use.

One day when I have the space I'll have a fleet of cavaliers. :love

Just woke up following last nights shift, my worst in the 8 years I've been a patrol, and possibly the worst weather I have ever seen. Most of the south east corner of the country has been hit hard and an awful lot of people were still trying to get home at 3am. I have a set of snow socks for the van, thankfully, without them I'd probably have been stuck 50 miles from home.

My brother in law left home at 7am yesterday to go to work in Croydon, usually about an hour. At 12 he was still on the M25, he gave up and turned around. He detoured to a friends house for a couple of hours hoping the traffic would ease, which it didn't. He finally arrived home at 2.30am.

I'm hoping it will be quiet tonight with only a handful of people still stupid enough to go out without preparing themselves properly.

It amazes me people who blatantly cant drive on snow/ice keep going out, on tues morning it took me 70mins to do a 5 mile journey, but they keep going out. I wouldnt have minded but on the worst traffic days its 40mins tops usually 20mins (12/13 if the roads are empty).

Today i just stayed in, i wanted to go out but after 5mins watching the traffic on the main road not move more than a few yards i decided to stay in.

roads are just about clear where i am, so was doing ok until I got home this afternoon.... my other half has been up and down the farm drive a few times in the JCB Loadall, and has compacted the snow to ice, so i was slip sliding away trying to get up to the house!

Managed to get to work today... and back again. :hair

But not much chance tomorrow... it is literally just the first 200 yards that prevent me going out... once I get past that, driving is a doddle !!

I have a 20 yrd slope with a gradient of 1 in 5, straight down onto an un-gritted bus lane

Getting out is easy, getting back home again is not :(

Only about 10" of snow... not bad for only two nights worth of snow.
Hard frost and then more snow tomorrow !!

My boss rang me today (on his day off), to say that he did not expect me in tomorrow... good to know he understands :)

Okay, I can't say I've noticed any snow.

Drove down from Liverpool to Derby at 5 am on Monday morning and wished I'd sorted the heater matrix out as it has to be partly blocked, and the car is freeezing.

Drove down to Birmingham last night and there were a few flakes, but the traffic was almost stationary at one point, saw a few flakes this morning in Birmingham, and had to scape 1/2 inch of the car before I drove back.

In traffic the temp gauge almost gets off COLD so I suspect the thermostat is jammed in the open position. And removing that bit of plastic off the back of the front grill might not have helped.

Got back to derby and it appears that there's been 3 inches if that.

We've had a fair bit here and the numpties are out in force!
The cav has performed brilliantly - i watched some eejit it an 04 merc utterly failing to get up a hill in front of me before reversing straight at me to turn around - jerk!
I got my satisfaction though - effortlessly climbing the same hill in my considerably cheaper (but much nicer) Cavvy.

Having said that the roads got much worse and we live at the top of an ungritted hill, so now I've had to dig out the Frontera to get about.
