I know how this feels!

Working the night shift and spending time messing with other cars, fixing the truck, freezing cold, on the hunt for bits and pieces that "fall off" smashed up cars in the yard, making tools, fixing other peoples trucks because there so lazy and then cleaning them out when ive finished with them, puts me in the same rut, I get home and cant be arsed to sort stuff on my own car. By my last night off, im in the garage tinkering with and rushing to get things done.

Ive been scratch building a scale model of one of the older trucks in the yard, been offered a considerable amount of money for it just for progress so far, its been unfinished for over a year. (sigh)

Need to finish off an RC land rover, still sat in the cupboard, Another scratch build to finish off and sticker up, wrapped up in a tissue some where in the garage.

I know exactly what you mean and how you feel, but as for advice im afraid I cant offer any to motivate you. Just imagine how good something will be when its done and you can bask in its glory and wallow in the self satisfaction that your hands did this.

You know like how I'm the Managing Director of a VERY small ltd company ? Which employs me and my wife.

My job titles include MD, Consultant, Finance Manager, Transportation and shipping, marketing, sales, admin, and Client Delivery Facilitator. As well as actually going to the clients site and being a temp, usually acting as a Manufacturing, Assembly or Quality Engineer.

My wife's job title is Head of Corporate Motivation and HR

I'm usually more motivated after 'motivational workshops' with the Head of Corporate Motivation. This involves a lot of lying down and 'exercise' whilst naked.

But I've had a cold sore for 3 weeks and the Head of Corporate Motivation won't come near me. i'm hoping that the Head of Corporate Motivation has a decent plan for 2011, because I'll be doing her personal development review soon, and I need improvements.

Yes, yes it does.

my latest project was my bathroom(cant really call it a bathroom, it doesnt have a bath!), friend of a friend of the missus' fitted it, did the tiling, plumbing etc etc.

Let us down a few days, and we had a leaky shower. But £950 later he was done, little unhappy about it as i spent a considerable time doing odd jobs, 9 month ago, i would of lost my rag and seriously hurt him, but stayed calm, bit my tongue and paid him.

Fitted the lights my self, the ceiling(white veined black marble), layed the boards down on the floor myself and the lyno with the mother in law(was a laugh to say the least), resealed the shower and re adjusted the sliding door, re fitted the clamp to hold the screen in place, cut, painted and fitted the skirting board my self(been years since i held a jigsaw), fitted a bifiold door, and now i can stand back and look at what ive done to make it a little more perfect, it NEEDED to be done and it was worth working till 2am and stabbing my self in the hand with a chisel.

Blood sweat and at times tears went into that, but now it was so worth while.

This time last year I had no kitchen and the missus was freaking out but I got it to a functional state and cooked the dinner in it Christmas day. In the midst of which I put a 22mm spade bit into the palm of my hand, the pointy bit went right in and I had a circular cut around it, REALLY hurt! I only pay people to do stuff I cannot legally do because I usually make a better job of it than they would.

Oh indeed. Here is a post I just made at the mini forum.

jacko-lah wrote: date='Dec 22 2010,

Description of problem (please be as in depth as possible):

So the garage who worked on my mini and fitted new CV joint wheel bearing, and drive flange, Phoned me up 24 hours after bringing it back to ask if I'd like them to come around and give me the wheel nut that they didn't fit. And when I firmly explain that I'm very very angry, because I'm pretty sure that they put 4 on for a reason, they try to tell me that it's okay because a saxo has 3 wheel bolts.

Any non-standard parts that might be involved with the problem? Minilite style 12 inch alloys

So I remember the conversation a week ago where they told me I had to source the drive flange (No idea why but hey go with the flow). I also remember the mechanic telling me that he had problems with a wheel nut because they have stainless steel covers on and this one was damaged so his socket was stuck to the nut. and I distinctly rememeber saying, "well that's okay I have a selection of sockets"

Anyway they start telling me that they can't modify the nut by removing the cover, and I'll have to get a new one. I said "come and get the car, find a nut that fits and deliver it back as Mr Issigoniss intended. If you have to buy a new nut so be it"

Anyway it's back on my drive with what looks like the old nut without the stainless cover.

Which isn't a problem because some of the nuts have them and some don't and I'll take them all off and put them with the wheel brace, just in case.

So I have a technical question ? How stupid are some people ? And an attitude question ? Am I right to be really well and truely pissseed off ?

Every little helps,
even if the screen washers won't work because the fluid has frozen solid... :wall

And the wipers will do a fab job of spreading the road salt / grit and grease film all over the screen :(

I've been using NEAT screenwash for weeks and below about - 8 it is useless, but I've noted that if it does freeze in the jets and you've managed to smeer the screen, just keep the wipers on and evenutally it'll be cleared even of the dry salt.

Probably the frozen jet is the one exposed to the weather... whilst the other is more sheltered towards your house.. away from drafts.

I have this sort of thing in the cold weather... one side of the car is more frozen that the other - dependent upon the direction from which the wind is blowing.

Personally, I am just waiting for this frosty weather to do a running jump :(
Too cold to do the jobs on the jalopy, which frustrates the Mojo...

Do wish I had a garage, not just a space on an exposed carpark, high up on a windy hill...

aye the weather really puts a downer on any job. Im gonna really curse myself now and so how well my winter hack has taken to transporting me and mine about over this last few weeks in all these low temperatures. Each morning at 4am it`ll fire up and get me to work and then drag my sorry arse back home again. All with great ease and mpg but to do any sort of work on it is out of the question at the mo, the screen is craked from one side the the other but its too cold to even fit a new screen :o

Rewire it! I had a bmw on the finchley road in london one night that had ripped the cabIe out of the sensor and shredded it. I linked the plug and the sensor together with a bit of old coax cable I had in the van. Ran perfectly afterward!
