my cav turbo 4x4 work in progress
Re: my cav turbo 4x4 work in progress
wish this was a positive update, but its far from it, on sunday i got the cav turbo ready for the road, changed all the fluids etc, then took it out for a bit of a drive, didnt get very far, when bang, and no power, the timing belt had slipped, as only bottom end turning when i turned it over, the belt and kit had only been on since about october, and done less than a 1000 miles, i dont know what caused this, but im now looking at least bent valves, at worst valves and bottom end damage, going to start stripping it down tomorrow, to see what the damage is, so the cav will be laid up again for quite a while as i have other prioritys for my cash at the moment, Ads

aww gutting dude sorry to hear that
My valver brings all the boys to the yard, dam right its cammed and carbed, dam right it pops and farts, I would show you but the fuker won't start!
Re: my cav turbo 4x4 work in progress
well got it stripped down today and its not too bad, 8 bent inlet valves, no piston or bottom end damage, found out what caused it too, metal ring on the front of the water pump somehow came off, dropping down into the bottom pulley sprocket, jamming it causing the belt to jump.

Re: my cav turbo 4x4 work in progress
at least you were able to determine the cause as well as the damage. i was in a similar situation when the belt went on my v6 cavalier. turned out to be the rubber seal on the timing belt cover came loose and got trapped in the belt itself. it's frustrating but it is nice to be able to see an obvious culprit, even if that is just bad luck!
Re: my cav turbo 4x4 work in progress
yep not good but i will sort it out mate no need to worry
Re: my cav turbo 4x4 work in progress
Kev (c20letlad)came up last week to sort my cav out, he brought with him a boot full of spares and tools, he had my cylinder head sorted out, 8 new inlet valves, 8 new valve guides, surface skim, new waterpipe fitted, one of the water channels welded up and smoothed, and several manifold studs drilled out and helicoiled,

cylinder head with manifolds fitted etc

fitted the cylinder head and all the associated pipe work, wires etc

next he removed the sump, and it was given a bloody good clean out, and refitted with a 8 v sump gasket

kev then fitted the restr of the stuff to get it to run

filled up the fluids etc and started the cav, sounded a bit tappety, but that should settle down, massive thanks to Kev
for comming up and sorting it out, TOP MAN.

Looking awesome mate!
Re: my cav turbo 4x4 work in progress
had a couple of hours cav time yesterday, and finished off the work Kev started, fitted bottom pulley, auxillary belt, cam cover, airbox etc.

then moved it out of the gatage for the first time under its own power in weeks

ran it up and down the road a few times, as i have no tax and could not take it further, seems to be running spot on and the fuelling is ok, then remover front bumper to fit my newly aquired fogllights, and trim bumper where it was fouling my intercooler, this is how i left it.

thanks for looking, Ads

Yup, half the board is locked unless you register your Cav Turbo, the rest of it is only viewable once your account is approved. As others have said, a good bunch on there (at least half of the regular users are on here anyway!)Deeksin wrote:A signed up for ctoc (even tho a dont have a terbo) but a cant view anything?TurboDan wrote:Nothing like driving it out of the garage after aload of work been done, great feeling.

Re: my cav turbo 4x4 work in progress
fitted my front bumpers with fog lights and put towing eye cover back on, refitted strut brace, tophat cover etc, so the engine bay is now complete.

put my oil and volt gauges in

put my joke sticker on.

then continued cleaning and repainting the underside

its getting there, slow but sure.
