Turbo rear panel...

Post by pete123 »

Should a turbo rear panel be textured or smooth like paintwork?

Just got a 'turbo' one and I don't think it's what it should be?

Yeah this one seems to be a black/dark green colour but it's not smooth, it's textured?

The Gsi had textured panels, I know what you mean, textured like the black bumper trims..

I assume if it's painted, it's smooth. Any chance of a pic?

If its genuine turbo it should be smooth as factory painted panels were smooth i believe. My mates turbo panel and others that he bought were all smooth.

Actually an originally painted turbo panel does have some texture on it, like a fine bumper texture, hardly noticable but its there and they are definately no where near as smooth/shiney as the rest of the car paintwork.

Turbos were only available in a few colours, none of them were 'green' so it's obviously been painted. Post it up and we can tell you if it's a Turbo panel as the colour of the 'reverse light' style reflector gives it away as Turbos had a specific style to the rear lights.

I don't think it is. I think that's a standard panel for the facelift models.

Edit:

Looking at it again, the dipped section around the plate area looks the same. Whether it's just been re-sprayed green to match a non-turbo, I don't know.

Facelift models have the orange in them. That's looks to have no orange in the reflector at all. . . I could be wrong tho bud it was just a quick glance.

yup as the others said, definitely a turbo item. re the textured effect, give it a fresh paint, it's probably not been sprayed up quite well enough.
