I have learned the hard way about using non o.e. crank seals. Ive redone the rear one and looks like I need to do the front one. Do you still have a lot to do before ypu drop in the XE?

Engine is looking very 'bling' with the red covers.

That should work nicely chris if you can give me a hand means we should be able to get it cracked off reasonably quickly. i'll let you know.

if you have a chance before it gets dropped in you should clean up and paint the block!

the pretty top end sort of "shows up" the rest of the engine. Get it cleaned while you have the easy access :D

The gear linkage rod replacement sounds like a good plan. I may have to invest

I changed all the little bushes ,washers etc on the Cav and Astra, but not the rod. Doing the little bits with good drop of grease did make a big diffrance. Ill have to check out the ball bit in the rod now to see how worn thay are.Could make it even better after reading this.

I also changed every rod/bush and anything else i could change but it still wasn't perfect. Then I got the rod and it was spot on after fitting that, and looking at the old one you can see how badly worn it was compared.

Well i did a hour or so snow clearing and then put a couple of hours on the xe.

Fitted the speedo drive (as it had gone awol out of the "new" f20) a new release bearing and put the box on, with a bit of brake cleaner on the splines of the input shaft (its liquid and it doesn't leave a residue once it evaporates so its ideal) it slipped on nicely. Fitted the dizzy tps and all the vac and breather pipes the airflow meter, giving everything a clean as i went, found an xe throttle cable so got that fitted, still need to find 1 more sfi box bolt but its about it will turn up, its nearly ready for going in, im trying to get as much done as i can before fitting just to get make life easier.

gave the block its first coat of black and leaving it to dry over Christmas its slowly getting there.
